It's super tiny but has a wider screen than before. Looks to have a tiny Home button. It's 5.4mm, 38% thinner than the last Nano!

We're getting the run-down.

TIM STEVENS 2:14 PM
Eddy is back now.
TIM STEVENS 2:14 PM
"Those are just a few of the new features in the new App Store."
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:14 PM

TIM STEVENS 2:14 PM
Similar interface for apps, books, etc.
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:14 PM
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:13 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:13 PM
We just checked out Born to Run by The Boss. While a sample was playing we were able to click over to Bruce's artist page, which now has concert dates.

That scene was where he left off on his iPhone and that position sync'd automatically.
TIM STEVENS 2:12 PM
Hah, it's the best scene in Avengers. "I am a god you damned creature and I will not be bullied!" Aaaand then the Hulk body slams Loki.

Applause for the mini-player!

TIM STEVENS 2:10 PM
There's a new mini-player, very tiny and discrete.
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:10 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:10 PM
Searching is revised too. It shows results inline. Click on anything and it brings you to the album or playlist, or double-click in the search results to play.

MAGE UPLOADED 2:10 PM
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:10 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:10 PM
Or, anywhere in the interface you can click "Play Next" and it'll enqueue the song to be the next one.
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:10 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:09 PM
There's a new "coming next" button that you can use to change the order of upcoming tracks.

IMAGE UPLOADED 2:09 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:09 PM
Interesting, whenever you click on a song or album and start to drag it the app automatically brings up a list of your playlists, so that you can add it.
IMAGE UPLOADED 2:09 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:09 PM
Managing playlists is a lot easier now. You can quickly hop back to your library without closing the playlist and then just drag and drop tracks to where you want them.

MAGE UPLOADED 2:08 PM
TIM STEVENS 2:08 PM
That's all nice, but if you just want a big list of songs you can still get that, thankfully. This interface is similar to what we've seen before.

TIM STEVENS 2:07 PM
Have to say the room isn't exactly as thrilled about this as they have been about earlier announcements...

TIM STEVENS 2:06 PM
It's basically a big grid now, much more simplified user interface.
TIM STEVENS 2:06 PM
The new iTunes is "dramatically simpler" says Eddy.

"It's been a huge, huge hit." Over 200 million people are using iTunes in the Cloud. 15 billion pieces of content have been served directly from the cloud.

TIM STEVENS 2:00 PM
iPhone 4 is now free on contract! 4S is now $99.
TIM STEVENS 1:59 PM
That's on-contract pricing, of course.
TIM STEVENS 1:59 PM
Same price as the 4S. $199 for 16GB. $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB.

"The variances from product to product we now measure in microns." Cameras actually take images of each case and select the appropriate back plate to fit.
  • TIM STEVENSJust a few micron difference is too much, so they have hundreds of minutely differently sized backs to match. What will this mean for getting replacements at the Apple Store?
DARREN MURPH 1:58 PM
Love the two-tone backs of the iPhone 5. Reminds me of the original iPhone, which has a completely iconic design.

TIM STEVENS 1:57 PM
And, no micro-USB compatibility. That port indeed doesn't look to be compatible. Bummer!

TIM STEVENS 1:56 PM
No wireless charging, either. You'll need to keep that Lightning cable handy.

TIM STEVENS 1:56 PM
No NFC, unfortunately, nor any talk about using Bluetooth 4.0 for near-field communications.
DARREN MURPH 1:56 PM
Yup, they just touted the iPhone 5's display as being better for widescreen videos. It's way closer to 16:9, and it's the only obvious argument for shifting away from the aspect ratio Apple has relied on the past five years.
TIM STEVENS 1:56 PM
So, while they're re-capping things, let's go over what's missing...

IMAGE UPLOADED 1:55 PM

DARREN MURPH 1:55 PM
Interesting that this video touts LTE as "potentially faster than a Wi-Fi connection." While true, encouraging people to hop on LTE, maybe even instead of Wi-Fi, seems a little crazy. As in, potentially crippling for networks.

TIM STEVENS 1:46 PM
As we've seen before, you can get plane tickets as well through here and, if you're at the airport, your ticket will show up right on the lock screen -- helpful if your fingers get a little fumbly when you're waiting for security.

DARREN MURPH 1:46 PM
So, that's confirmation that Delta will be onboard, as well as Starwood Hotels. Now, if only Delta would credit me some sympathy miles for that 15 hour flight I just took from Dubai to Atlanta with *no in-flight entertainment whatsoever.*
