New Design for iPhone 5 Revealed in Leaked Case Diagrams or is this the iPod touch 5?

No comments:

MobilePhone.co.uk has posted diagrams for an iPhone 5 case that allegedly reveals a new design for the popular smartphone.

In April, former Engadget editor Joshua Topolsky detailed a radical teardrop redesign with a 3.7-inch screen and a home button gesture area. The case diagrams posted by MobilePhone seem to depict this design; however, MacRumors says they have received a reliable tip that this is not what the iPhone 5 will look like.

The diagram below show a device with a larger 4-inch screen made possible by a smaller bezel. The phone's rear panel curves gently back around its edges, much like the iPhone 3G. A gap for the Apple logo suggests that perhaps the logo will serve as the iPhone's antenna.

The physical home screen button has been replaced with a touch-sensitive ovaloid area which takes up the middle half of the bottom border which could be used for multi-touch gestures. The buttons have been moved to the opposite side of the device.

The source of these diagrams is said to be a Chinese case manufacturer. Although their authenticity is questionable, recent reports have predicted a major redesign for the upcoming iPhone.

This might just be the iPod touch 5th generation, just like there where many cases prior to the iPad 2 release that where completely wrong, these are also wrong at least in our opinion.

Apple is Working on an Ultra-Thin 15-inch MacBook?

No comments:

Apple is reportedly working on an ultra-thin 15-inch MacBook, according to MacRumors. The site is unsure if it will be released as a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro but says it is already in late testing stages.

It's expected that Apple will drop the built-in optical drive as it has done for the new MacBook Airs and the new Mac Mini.

The timing of an ultra-thin 15" Apple notebook remains a mystery to us as Apple just revamped the MacBook Air with new 11" and 13" models. Meanwhile the MacBook Pro line was refreshed in February, likely pushing the next release out to at least very late in the year.

Back in February, iLounge predicted the next update for the MacBook Pro would be a milestone redesign.

Could this possibly be the new Liquid Metal MacBook we have been waiting for?

Apple Invents a Physical Keyboard Without Keys

No comments:

A recent patent filing by Apple reveals a new piezo-based acoustic and capacitive detection system which includes a glass based keyboard concept, reports PatentlyApple.

The glass keyboard could have keys painted on the surface or provided as graphics on a display below the surface. Haptic or tacile feedback could be provided via vibration or motion to the user's fingers in response to a press on the surface.

Apple describes the use of one or more piezo-electric sensors to detect and record an acoustic pulse created when the user taps on the keyboard.

In the example shown in FIG. 3, two piezo-electric ("piezo") sensors 310, 312 are arranged within the keyboard structure with one on the left sidewall of the keyboard structure and the other on the right sidewall of the structure. The piezo sensors are situated to receive an acoustic pulse created when the user taps a segment or segments of the top surface of the keyboard.

Apple's patent FIG. 3A depicts a cross-sectional top view of the keyboard of FIG. 3 along line "BB" that utilizes three piezo sensors 310-314 to detect an acoustic pulse recognition of a tap on the keyboard surface. During operation, a user taps on the surface of the flat keyboard defined by the keyboard outline. For example, the user may tap on the top surface of the flat keyboard (302) that includes an indication of the letter "H". When tapped, one or more acoustic pulses 304, 306 propagates away from and along the keyboard's top surface.

Recently, another Apple patent filing detailed the use of proximity sensors to determine when your finger gets close to a key, causing air to shoot out from the key towards your finger to provide tactile feedback.

Why not just use a led backlit LCD touch panel on the bottom part of the laptop and allow it to hide the keyboard similar to the iPad and instead of the keyboard it will show the dock in fullscreen apps.

HTC Says They Need to 'Sit Down' With Apple and 'Figure It Out'

No comments:

HTC says that it is open to negotiations with Apple to resolve the patent dispute between the companies, according to Bloomberg.

Recently, an ITC judge found HTC in violation of two Apple patents which appear to be at the core of Android and are likely infringed by all Android devices. Only July 6th, HTC announced a $300 million deal to S3 Graphics after the company won a ruling against Apple over two patents.

"We have to sit down and figure it out," Winston Yung, chief financial officer of the Taoyuan, Taiwan-based company, said by phone today. "We're open to having discussions."

"We are open to all sorts of solutions, as long as the solution and the terms are fair and reasonable," Yung said. "On and off we've had discussions with Apple, even before the initial determination came out."

Both the rulings for and against Apple are subject to review by the full six-member ITC commission before they are finalized.
