Jetstar to Offer iPads Rentals for $10 per Flight

No comments:

Jetstar will offer passengers the option to rent an iPad for $10 per flight from early April, pending a licensing agreement with Apple, according to the Australian Business Traveller.

The touchscreen tablet will become a 'personal in-flight entertainment system' preloaded with movies, music, magazines, books and games.

As reported last year by Australian Business Traveller, the low-cost airline originally intended to launch its in-flight iPad program before last Christmas following a mid-2010 trial.

"The trial went very well, very well" Jetstar corporate relations chief Simon Westaway told Australian Business Traveller in November last year, "but we're still in the contract negotiation stage and we won't see (the iPads) until after Christmas, until early 2011".

"Based on demand for the iPads as part of the trial, we'll be looking to roll out the devices across our entire domestic and international network", said Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan.

All Aboard Lola's Alphabet Train 2.0

No comments:

BeiZ announces the launch of its engaging educational game for children, Lola's Alphabet Train, available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Children can join Lola Panda while she teaches youngsters how to read, spell new words and identify various objects in five enchanting alphabet games. Children start with a "drag and drop" letter game and advance through progressively challenging stages, like "form a word", as their linguistics skills improve. Offering three difficulty levels for children ages 3-8, Lola's Alphabet Train can grow with young children as their vocabulary and verbal skills expand.

Taking lessons from proven entertaining game-play mechanics, Lola's Alphabet Train facilitates learning in children through a compelling rewards system that allows children to choose from a bountiful collection of prizes as they complete each level. The reward system in Lola's Alphabet Train enhances a notion of motivation called "choice of challenge," occurring when children experience success and satisfaction in overcoming one challenge and then welcoming another. By applying fun and engaging gaming elements to education, parents will soon see tots picking up Lola's Alphabet Train to have a great time and essentially learn all on their own.

At an age when children are hungry to learn and retain new information, Lola's Alphabet Train provides a learning tool that stimulates curiosity, exploration and discovery. Parents will see toddlers gleam with feelings of accomplishment as they triumph over each challenge with Lola Panda, with increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lola's Alphabet Train is an engaging platform for children to learn on their own as the improved game logic in the app helps bolster retention of newly learned material. As an added bonus, Lola's Alphabet Train also includes four foreign languages for children to experience and wrap their minds around.

"Lola's Alphabet Train is a wonderful learning tool for young children, as it has been designed to enhance and refine cognitive abilities," says Mika Heikinheimo, CEO of BeiZ. "By fusing certain game-play elements with learning, it can ignite interest and engagement amongst young children, making the learning experience a lot more appealing than it would be otherwise."

According to those familiar with the new build, Apple has added Safari to the list of areas in which developers are asked to concentrate their testing, joining Mac App Store, AirPort, Bonjour, SMB, and Graphics Drivers that had been included in previous builds. Once again, no known issues are listed in the documentation.

U.S. Antitrust Enforcers Begin Examining Apple In-App Subscriptions

No comments:

U.S. antitrust enforcers have begun looking at Apple's policy which forces content providers to use in-app purchases to sell their subscriptions, according to the WSJ.

The Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission's interest in Apple's new subscription service is at a preliminary stage, and might not develop into either a formal investigation or any action against the company. But it comes as Apple has attracted growing antitrust scrutiny in the U.S. and Europe.

The European Commission told the WSJ that the commission was aware of the new subscription service and was "carefully monitoring the situation."

Apple has imposed a deadline of June 30th for developers to implement their in-app subscriptions feature.

Apple is Not Planning a Smaller iPhone?

No comments:

The New York Times is reporting that Apple will not introduce a smaller iPhone any time soon.

Another person who is in direct contact with Apple also said that the company would not make a smaller iPhone at this time, in part because a smaller device would not necessarily be much cheaper to manufacture and because it would be more difficult to operate.

The NYT says Apple’s engineers are currently focused on finishing the iPhone 5 which will be similar in size to the iPhone 4 and should be ready for this summer. However, they do suggest Apple might release a cheaper device.

"Although the innards of the phone, including memory size or camera quality, could change to offer a less expensive model, the size of the device would not vary." said their source.

Both the WSJ and Bloomberg have published contradictory reports predicting that Apple intends to launch a smaller iPhone.

The new device is intended to be sold alongside the current line of iPhones and would be about half the size of the iPhone 4. The phone, one of its codenames is N97, would be available to mobile carriers at about half the price of Apple's main line of iPhones
