Portable PDF Form Filling Tool

No comments:

Readdle has released PDF Expert 2.1, the latest version of its cutting edge iPad application for editing PDF forms and annotating PDF documents. Now both small and large companies can equip their employees with the iPad and PDF Expert to take customer orders, fill out insurance forms, legal documents and prepare inspection reports on the go.

In addition to standard PDF forms, PDF Exert 2.1 handles electronic forms created in Adobe LiveCycle that are heavily used in enterprise, government and educational sectors. This lets organizations replace laptops with the iPads for different types of tasks related to filling PDF forms.

"Two month ago we introduced a new version of PDF Expert with the ability to fill Adobe Acrobat forms directly on the iPad. Since then we have got a number of requests from large businesses, including banks, insurance companies, universities and governmental agencies willing to handle their day to day operations with our application. With PDF Expert 2.1 we can finally fulfill these requests and help them transform the iPad into valuable business tool," says Alex Tyagulsky, Readdle CMO.

When opened in PDF Expert, a PDF form behaves exactly like within desktop PDF editor. Text fields, check boxes, radio buttons, and other interactive elements are fully supported. In case the form contains a "Submit" button to send filled data via email or upload directly to the corporate server, it also works as expected. Thus organizations can save considerable amount of money on training employees using the application.

Pricing and Availability:
PDF Expert for iPad 2.1 is available on the Apple App Store at $9.99 (USD) to new customers and as a free update for existing PDF Expert for iPad owners.

Judge Orders Geohot to Let Sony Inspect His Hard Drive

No comments:

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston has ruled that Sony will be allowed access to Geohot's hard drive, according to a Wired report.

When Geohot's lawyer object saying that Sony would be able to view all his other files, Illston replied, "That's the breaks".

Illston informed Kellar that it was routine for the entire contents of computers to be searched in a bid to isolate what is being sought, as in child pornography prosecutions.

Kellar: "Your honor, we're certainly not dealing with child pornography in this issue,"

Illston: "Here, I find probable cause that your client has got these things on his computer," she said. "It's a problem when more than one thing is kept on the computer. I’ll make sure the order is and will be that Sony is only entitled to isolate … the information on the computer that relates to the hacking of the PlayStation."

Sony is also demanding that YouTube surrender the personal information of those who viewed Geohot's PS3 jailbreak video on a private page.

Intel Design Flaw to Delay MacBooks by Just Two Weeks?

No comments:

A design flaw in Intel's 6 Series Cougar Point chipsets will only delay some MacBooks by less than two weeks, according to an AppleInsider report.

One person familiar with the matter tells AppleInsider that some -- not all -- of the company's upcoming MacBook Pros were affected by the situation. According to this person, the Mac maker elected to make minor tweaks to the logic boards of those models, but that those changes would translate to a delay of less than two weeks.

Intel says the problem with the chips was the potential for four of the SATA ports -- 2 through 5 -- to "degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives."

The problem does not affect SATA ports 0 or 1, and since MacBook Pros only make use of two SATA ports, Apple would only have to make minor changes to avoid any issues.

"There are two connections on the board -- one for optical drive, and one for HDD," said iFixit's Kyle Wiens. "The other internal devices (trackpad, keyboard, SD card reader, etc.) use USB."

UK Restaurant Uses iPod Touch to Measure Self-Serve Beer

No comments:

A UK restaurant and bar called Taps is using an iPod touch to let customers serve their own draught beer, according to AppAdvice.

Customers are seated at a table with a built-in beer tap and an iPod touch embedded into the table top.

Every time you top off your glass, you're charged per tenth of a pint (for example, Amstel costs £0.33 per tenth). This is great, because it means you don't have to fill up your glass to the very top; if you only want an extra mouthful, that's all you’ll be charged for.

The iPod touch app not only recognizes how much you've drank, but the application also displays how much beer you've consumed, so you can keep track.

Take a look at the video below for more information.

Is Apple Working on New Notification System for iOS?

No comments:

Apple is reportedly working on a new notification system for iOS and may be purchasing a small company to use its technology, according to a CultofMac report.

There were rumors last year that the iPhone's notification system would be fixed after the chief architect of Palm's system, Rich Dellinger, returned to work at Apple. However, the system still hasn't been fixed, and according to our source, Apple is now trying to buy a small app developer to fix it.

Our source, who asked to remain anonymous, didn't know the identity of the company, except it already has an iPhone app in the App Store.

CultofMac suggests that one candidate might be Boxcar; however, its unclear how this acquisition would bring any new technology to Apple.

Using an iPad Doesn't Make You Attractive, Using an iPhone Does

No comments:

Using an iPad doesn't help in making you attractive but using an iPhone might just do the trick, according to a Retrevo report.

Using an iPad is lower on the list of things men and women find attractive than even reading a book. We’re not sure why this is so, perhaps there is an element of resentment toward iPad owners among those unfortunate to be iPad-deprived.

At the top of the list of things that attract is a cool phone with 50% of men under 35 say they find people with cool phones more interesting. This same group of men is also impressed by the laptop you’re toting with 46% saying they are more interested in people with cool laptops. Women under 35 on the other hand, are less impressed by people’s gadgets with only 36% saying they find cool cell phones impressive while 38% of the same group of women like people with cool laptops more.

The study also found that using accessories like Bluetooth headsets and phone holsters make you unattractive.

MacBook Air to Get Sandy Bridge CPU in June?

No comments:

Apple may be planning to give the MacBook Air a speed bump by updating it with Intel's new Sandy Bridge processor, according to CNET.

Initial shipments of Intel's Sandy Bridge processor were snafued on January 31 by a minor glitch in the accompanying chipset, though the chipmaker will resume shipments of fixed chipsets as early as mid-month. The Sandy Bridge processor itself is not affected.

The MacBook Air refresh is expected in June, according to a source familiar with Apple's plans.

The MacBook Pros are also rumored to get an update which could come as early as March.

Opera to Unveil Its Browser for the iPad at MWC in Barcelona

No comments:

Opera has announced that it will unveil its browser for the iPad at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

105 million people might use Opera’s browsers today, but Opera Software cares even more about tomorrow. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, new versions of the Opera Mini browser on Android, iPhone, J2ME, BlackBerry, Symbian and even the iPad will appear. The Opera Mobile browser will not be left behind either, with the latest version for Android and Symbian making their debut. Come by the booth to say hello, check out what is coming up next, or tell us what you would like to see from us next. We are in Hall 1, Booth C44.

"Our developers have been hard at work building the mobile browser of the future — for both consumers and mobile operators," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. "We want our browser to impact lives in a meaningful way. It's one reason we use mostly renewable resources to power Opera Mini’s servers. It’s why we make it light, so you don’t have to recharge your battery every few hours. It's why Opera Mini and Opera Mobile can help operators reduce the bandwidth that clogs their networks. A browser may never change the world, but we’ll never stop trying to."

Mobile World Congress runs from February 14-17th.

Apple Doubling Orders for Some MacBook Models?

No comments:

While other notebook manufacturers struggle, Apple is reportedly doubling its orders for certain MacBook models, according to DigiTimes.

Samsung has been performing better than other brands by taking up deliveries from the suppliers, the sources noted, adding that Apple reportedly is revising upward its orders with the volume of some hot-selling models being doubled.

Overall, notebook shipments from the top-five notebook makers are likely to contract by 5-10% sequentially in the first quarter, to 38 million units, or the same volume they shipped a year ago, estimated the sources.

Apple is rumored to be preparing a major update to the MacBook Pro lineup which could be released as early as March.
