SD Card Slot Rumors for the iPad 2 Were Incorrect?

No comments:

Rumors that the next generation iPad will feature an SD Card slot may be incorrect, according to an AppleInsider source.

In a mockup analysis of all the openings and recesses in those cases, it was speculated that that left-side opening could represent the much-rumored SD Card slot. However, a person that AppleInsider trusts on matters such as these has since rebutted that notion, stating instead that the break in the next-gen iPad enclosure at that location is actually a relocation of the tablet's SIM card slot. (This could signal a smaller logic board in the next iPad and better battery life via and even larger battery).

That being said, Engadget's report on the iPad 2 having a SD Card slot was also from a 'concrete' source. No one really know what will be released until it actually is...

Active Storage to Offer Xserve Replacement?

No comments:

Active Storage may be set to offer a replacement for the Xserve which Apple is discontinuing at the end of the month, according to a MacRumors report.

Active Storage has updated its website with a teaser for an apparently new product set to debut on January 31st just as Apple discontinues the Xserve. The teaser image appears to show a rackmountable hardware unit, seemingly in a 2U form factor, covered with a black cloth. While the company has released no other information about the forthcoming product, it does appear as though Active Storage is preparing to fill the void left by the Xserve's discontinuation, quite possibly with Apple's blessing and assistance.

The company was created in 2008 by former Apple employees after Apple discontinued its Xserve RAID offerings.

Did Steve Jobs Test the iPad Using 'The Incredibles' Movie?

No comments:

Nathan Shedroff & Chris Noessel presented findings from their forthcoming book 'Make It So - Learning from SciFi Interfaces' at MacWorld Expo.

CultofMac reports that Noessel, an interaction designer and Shedroff, program chair of the MBA in Design Strategy at the California College of the arts, believe that Steve Jobs may have used the 2004 Pixar movie "The Incredibles" to test whether audiences would accept the idea of a tablet computer.

Taking a look at the screen captures below the tablet does look a lot like an iPad with a big Home button.

The New Monster iMotion CarPlay 3000 Controls Your iPod With Hand Gestures

No comments:

The Monster iMotion CarPlay 3000 is a 12-volt car charger that lets you control your iPod or iPhone using gestures.

The car charger sends line level audio to your head unit using a 3.5mm cable and connects to your iDevice using the dock connector. Waving your hand or finger in front of the charger lets you control music playback.

Placing a hand in front of the sensor lets you toggle between play and pause. Swiping a hand from left to right in front of the device causes the attached iPod to skip forward. Swiping the other direction triggers a backward skip.

The iMotion CarPlay 3000 costs $120 and is available now.

Twelve South Introduces BookArc for the MacBook Air

No comments:

Twelve South has introduced a new version of its popular BookArc, designed exclusively for the Apple MacBook Air (Late 2010 models).

Like previous versions of BookArc, the MacBook Air model is fashioned from heavy gauge steel for stylish looks and a sturdy footprint. One convenient addition is built-in cable management. Since MacBook Air has inputs on both sides, the BookArc cable housing routes power, external display, USB and other cables behind the MacBook for a clean workspace. These cables stay tethered to the stand so you can easily get your Mac in and out quicker than ever

For those who use MacBook Air with an external display, a key benefit for BookArc is the performance boost it gives your Mac. If you connect MacBook Air to an external monitor and leave the MacBook open, video memory is split between the two displays. When working with MacBook Air in the closed position, resting in BookArc, 100% of the video memory is dedicated to powering the external monitor. This provides a notable boost in power when working with Aperture, Photoshop and other graphics- intensive programs.

"BookArc has been one of our most popular products, so it was only natural to create one for the thin new MacBook Air," said Creative Director Andrew Green of Twelve South. "Some insightful feedback from customers led to some design tweaks, including the cable manager, making this the strongest BookArc to date."

The arc-shaped stand elevates MacBook for a less cluttered workspace. A soft silicone insert firmly grips the second generation, 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air. Padded rubber feet keep the stand from leaving any marks on your work surface.

BookArc for MacBook Air begins shipping next month with a price of $39.99.

Fire Department App Informs You of Nearby Emergencies

No comments:

Fire Department is a new iOS app that alerts of you nearby emergencies so you can offer your assistance if possible.

The FireDepartment.org iPhone application is the first of its kind! By providing a virtual window into San Ramon Valley’s 9-1-1 dispatch center, iPhone users now have real-time access to emergency activity occurring in the community.

The app empowers those within the San Ramon Valley borders to provide life-saving assistance to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Application users who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can now be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac emergency and may require CPR. If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the application, using sophisticated GPS technology, will alert citizens in the vicinity of the need for CPR. The application also directs these citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Don’t live in the San Ramon Valley? You’ll still find listening to the live action of our dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics informative and interesting.

What's New In This Version:
- New location-aware notification option added for possible CPR/AED events.
- New feature provides option to display Public Access Defibrillators (AEDs) on map.
- Enhanced map pins now graphically indicate incident types.
- Added "pull to refresh" functionality.
- Misc fixes and enhancements.

You can download Fire Department from the App Store for free.

Apple Slips to Fifth in Global Mobile Phone Market Share

No comments:

Apple has slipped to fifth place in Global Mobile Phone Market Share for Q4 and ranks fifth for the entire 2010 year, according to a IDC report.

The iPhone maker slipped to the number 5 position despite a record quarter for unit shipments and the departure soon thereafter of CEO Steve Jobs on medical leave. It was the company's second straight quarter on IDC's Top 5 list. The iPhone sold particularly well in developed regions of the world, such as North America and Western Europe. Apple, which said it could have sold more iPhones last quarter had it been able to make more, is set to introduce the touchscreen device on Verizon next month.

The report also notes that the worldwide mobile phone market grew 17.9% in the fourth quarter of 2010 (4Q10), a new quarterly high driven by smartphones. Vendors shipped 401.4 million units in 4Q10 compared to 340.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2009. Vendors shipped a total of 1.39 billion units on a cumulative worldwide basis in 2010, up 18.5% from the 1.17 billion units shipped in 2009.
