Completely Redesigned iPhone 5, Retina Display iPad, 1080p Apple TV?

No comments:

The iPhone 5 will get a complete redesign, the iPad will get a Retina Display, and the Apple TV will get 1080p video, according to an Engadget report.

The site claims to have concrete information from reliable sources about the upcoming devices.

iPad 2
Apparently the mockups which have received so much press coverage of late are very early versions of the device and contrary to rumor, the new iPad will arrive in April. The display will sport a new technology similar to the Retina Display and be "super high resolution". It will get front and rear cameras, and feature an SD slot. "In fact, see that weird notch in the photo below? That's where the SD part will be located."

The new iPad will also feature a dual GSM / CDMA chipset produced by Qualcomm.

iPhone 5
Engadget's sources report that the iPhone 5 will be a completely redesigned handset and will launch this summer. It is already being tested by senior Apple staff on campus only. It is said to be running a new A5 CPU and will also sport a Qualcomm chipset that "does triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor -- from what we hear there's no LTE in the mix at this point."

Apple TV
Apple is also said to be working on a next generation Apple TV that will feature the new A5 processor as well. "The CPU is said to be blazingly fast, cranking out 1080p video 'like running water.' It's likely that the A5 will make it into the iPad 2 as well, but we have yet to confirm that"

Apple to Use OpenCL-Capable SGX543 GPU in Future iDevices?

No comments:

References to a driver bundle that supports the next-generation POWERVR SGX543 GPU have been found in iOS 4.3 by MacRumors. Current iDevices use the POWERVR SGX535 GPU.

The new POWERVR SGX543 delivers real-world performance of 35 million polygons/sec and 1 Gpixels/sec fillrate at 200MHz, capable of driving HD screens with ultra smooth high definition 3D graphics. Even in a single-core solution POWERVR SGX543's performance is unprecedented in any GPU, demonstrating Imagination's pace of innovation and ability to drive the consumer experience in graphics to levels unheard of only a few years ago in anything less than high end specialist platforms.

MacRuors notes that the SGX543 also "offers support for the Apple-backed OpenCL specification that allows applications to harness untapped potential of both CPUs and GPUs for processing purposes."

VideoLock Keeps Airplay, Video Playing After You Lock Your Screen

No comments:

VideoLock is a new Cydia tweak that lets you lock your iDevice screen without pausing video playback.

VideoLock lets you lock the screen of your iPhone, iPod, or iPad without pausing video playback. This will prevent you from having to restart playback each time you want to put the device in your pocket or turn off the screen.

VideoLock has been testing working with the iPod player, YouTube, Safari, and Vevo. It will likely work with many other apps as well.

Check out the video below from iPhoneDownloadBlog that shows how the tweak lets you keep AirPlay video streaming with a locked iPhone.

You can purchase VideoLock for $0.99 from the Cydia Store.
