Apple Refuses to Repair iPhone That Shattered in the Cold

No comments:

Apple is refusing to repair a Norweigen iPhone owner's device after it shattered due to the cold.

Maybe this is all apocryphal, but a woman in Norway, while wandering in the icy wastes of the frozen North in minus 14-degree weather, picked up her iPhone only to find it had shattered in the cold. She took the phone back to the Apple Store and the geniuses refused to repair it, citing that the phone is not designed to withstand temperatures below freezing or above 35 degrees Celsius.

If Apple sells the iPhone in a country that has an average temperature below zero for several months of the year, do they really expect people not to use their phones?

Another iPhone 4 Model is Headed to China?

No comments:

Apple may be set to release a third model of the iPhone 4 which will be supplied to China and other countries.

Yesterday, references to an iPhone3,3 model were found in the iOS 4.3 beta firmware. Today, Digitimes reports that there are two models of the CDMA iPhone.

Pegatron started shipping its CDMA iPhone 4 in January 2011 and Foxconn started in December 2010. Foxconn's model will be solely supplied to the US, while Pegatron's model will be supplied to China and other countries. Since US-based telecom carrier Verizon currently has over 93 million users in the US, the launch of CDMA iPhone is expected to double the number of the current iPhone users in the market.

The CDMA iPhone is said to have a bill of materials estimated at US$190-200, lower than iSuppli's BOM for the first-generation iPhone of US$217.73, but higher than the iPhone 3G/3GS at US$166-170.8 and the iPhone 4G at US$188. The site expects Apple to reach a new record in shipments for 2011.

Interestingly the site also reports that Apple is using new technologies in the device.

Since Apple is starting to adopt new technologies and materials such as halogen-free connectors, carbon fiber internals, solar glass charger plates and double-webcams, which it will gradually adopt into all its product lines, related component suppliers are all expected to profit in 2011.

Apple to Launch the iPad 2 on April 2nd or 9th?

No comments:

Apple will reportedly launch its second generation iPad on April 2nd or April 9th, according to a MacNotes.de report.

Reliable sources told us about the upcoming launch of the Apple iPad 2: the first or second Saturday in April will see the first sales of Apples new tablet. The iPad 2 will sell US-only for three months, and Apple Store-only for up to half a year. In July, more countries will follow. Walmart, Best Buy and Co. maybe have to wait until October until they are allowed to sell Apples new tablets.

The site is also predicting a higher resolution display, USB connectivity, and two cameras for the device.

iOS 4.3 Reveals New iPhone, iPad Models

1 comment:

Engadget has found references to two new iPhone models and three new iPad models in the iOS 4.3 firmware.

If you dig far enough into iOS's code, you'll eventually come across iPhone3,1, which is the AT&T iPhone 4, and the analogous iPhone3,2 (i.e. Verizon iPhone). It's nothing we haven't seen before, but then along comes iOS 4.3 with a handful of new mystery identifiers to spurn speculation -- namely, two new-generation iPhones (4,1 and 4,2) and three iPads (2,1; 2,2; and 2,3).

Its likely that the new iPhone models represent the GSM and CDMA version of the device and the three new iPad models are WiFi, GSM, and CDMA variants.

Any thoughts on what iPhone3,3 is?

Geohot Files Opposition to Sony Restraining Order

No comments:

Geohot has filed his opposition to Sony's motion for a Temporary Restraining Order, Preliminary Injunction, and Order of Impoundment that was brought against him because of the PS3 jailbreak.

His attorney Stewart Kellar notes that George Hotz is not a resident of California and does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Mr. Hotz is not a resident of California, does not consent to jurisdiction in California, intends to file a Motion to Dismiss for Lack of Personal Jurisdiction and requests this court delay hearing on this TRO until after the court has ruled on such Motion to Dismiss.

Kellar states that Sony is merely trying to scare individuals from using their products in a way it doesn't approve of and reveals that they only provided Hotz with documentation hours before a preliminary hearing in California. (Hotz lives in New Jersey).

Geohot's filing makes it clear that he doesn't classify himself as a hacker, doesn't have any affiliation with the other defendants, and has not produced, manufactured, sold, nor does he have any intent whatsoever to produce, manufacture, or sell, any devices that facilitate piracy or counterfeiting.

You can download the entire filing from here or look here for the introduction.

No comments:

Apple has released iOS 4.3 Beta to developers for testing and it includes new Multi-Touch gestures for iPad, improved AirPlay capabilities, iAd full screen banners, and HTTP Live Streaming statistics.

AirPlay
Stream video from your app to a widescreen TV using new Media Player APIs that support AirPlay video. You can also update your web content to support AirPlay. Read more in the AirPlay Video Support section of What's New in iOS 4.3.

iAd Full Screen Banners
iAd full screen banners grab the attention of users by taking advantage of the large screen of iPad to launch an immersive, interactive iAd experience. This new banner format is easy to implement. And Apple sells and serves the ads to your app while you collect 60% of the advertising revenue generated.

HTTP Live Streaming Statistics
Track the popularity of your streams and measure their performance. New AVFoundation APIs allow you to track information including how many people are watching your videos, how long they're watching them, and performance metrics like observed bitrate and number of dropped frames. Use these statistics to fine tune your authoring process and deliver optimized content to your users.

Test Multi-Touch Gestures for iPad
This beta release contains a preview of new Multi-Touch gestures for iPad. You can use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen; swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar; and swipe left or right between apps. We are providing this preview before releasing them to the public to understand how these gestures work with your apps.

Personal Hotspot is also present in this update! You can also choose if the side switch on your iPad mutes, or locks the device's orientation. You can download the iOS 4.3 beta from the Apple Developer Center.
