Mac App Store to Launch at 12:00 pm (noon) ET Tomorrow?

No comments:

Apple may be set to launch to the Mac App Store at 12:00 pm (noon) ET tomorrow, reports LoopInSight.

According to my sources, the Mac App Store will be available at 12:00 pm (noon) ET on Thursday. That puts it at about 9:00 am PT where Apple is headquartered in Cupertino, Calif.

The Mac App Store lets you browse new and noteworthy apps, find out what’s hot, view staff favorites, search categories and read customer ratings and reviews. Like on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, you can purchase, download and install apps in just one click and start using them immediately. Purchased apps can run on all of your personal Macs and updates are delivered directly through the Mac App Store so it’s easy to keep all of your apps up to date.

The Mac App Store will be available to Mac OS X Snow Leopard users as a free download through Software Update. MacStories believes it will be part of a Mac OS X 10.6.6 update. We'll let you know when it goes live!

Comcast Plans to Enable 3,000 Hours of On Demand Content for iPad

No comments:

Comcast today announced plans to enable in-home streaming for live and On Demand content this year on Apple's iPad as well as Android powered tablets. Later this year, customers will be able to watch live news, TV shows and movies in their homes whenever they want. Comcast also made two more announcements about its Xfinity TV service today. First, Comcast provided details about the play now capability that will be available on the iPad in the coming weeks and which will enable the viewing of On Demand programming on the iPad. Second, Xfinity TV online (www.xfinitytv.com) has added additional features that transform any computer into a powerful search engine and remote control.

Play Now Capability on Xfinity TV iPad App
Comcast plans to roll out its new play now feature, which will enable customers using the popular Xfinity TV iPad app to watch nearly 3,000 hours of On Demand content, including popular movies and hit TV shows, either in the home or on-the-go, including anywhere there is a wireless connection. The initial selection of programs and movies is just the beginning. Comcast plans to bring thousands of additional choices to the iPad in the weeks and months ahead and to add the same functionality and content to Android powered devices later this year.

Comcast's Xfinity TV app functions as a television guide, remote control and mobile video player all in one. With it, customers can change TV channels, easily search and browse through their TV and On Demand listings, and program their DVRs. Future releases of the app will include seamless access to social networking sites so customers can share what they're watching with their friends in real time, as well as a 'MyTV' feature that gives customers the ability to send and receive personal recommendations with friends on what to watch.

"Live streaming and the play now feature on our Xfinity TV app are two important pieces of our strategy to deliver any content to any device, any time," said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman & CEO of Comcast Corporation. "Comcast has a series of upcoming online enhancements and app releases that are part of a much larger effort to reinvent how customers interact with their entertainment on TV, online and on mobile devices."

Changing Channels on a Television Set from a Computer on Xfinity TV Online
Comcast has also launched a new feature that enables customers to search for their favorite programs and to change channels on a TV set from a computer via XfinityTV.com. The feature enables millions of customers with laptops or desktop computers to browse, search and find TV and On Demand content online and then select and watch it on their TVs or program their DVRs to record programs for later viewing. This feature also transforms any computer into a sophisticated remote control.

XfinityTV.com offers more than 150,000 online video choices and growing. The site also offers management tools that enable a more personalized experience such as a 'Watchlist' feature that helps keep track of TV shows and movies wherever they are playing – on TV, On Demand or online.

To learn more about the iPad app, you can visit www.xfinity.com/tvapp.

Snow Leopard Already Running on New Sandy Bridge CPUs

No comments:

Tonymacx86 has already managed to get Mac OS X Snow Leopard running on Intel's new Sandy Bridge CPU.

Today Intel lifted the Non-Disclosure Agreement on it's new Sandy Bridge LGA Socket-1155 next generation performance chipset and CPUs. The good news is, we've already successfully installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard!

The bad news is, until Apple uses these CPUs, it's a bit of a science experiment, as you'll need to use a "patched" non-standard Darwin kernel in order to boot the system. For those of you buying new systems anyway, we're opening a special section of the forum dedicated to Sandy Bridge.

The new processor brings a significant performance improvement; however, it is quite a bit of work to get things running. You can find some instructions at the link below to help you get started.

Apple's First Use for Liquidmetal Could be a Fuel Cell

No comments:

A patent filing discovered by CultofMac reveals that Apple's first use for Liquidmetal could be for an internal component of a fuel cell.

Apple's new patent describes "amorphous alloy" collector plates for fuel cells, an electrochemical battery that uses hydrogen to generate electricity. Although the patent doesn't reference the Liquidmetal trademark, the material is an amorphous alloy or "metallic glass."

The collector plate described in Apple’s patent acts as a catalyst for a chemical reaction that separates electrons from hydrogen to produce electricity. Its only byproducts are water and heat. As long as the cell is topped-up with fuel, it will continue to generate power. The process is clean, quiet and highly efficient — up to three times more efficient than burning fuel.

On August 5th, 2010 Apple entered into an agreement with Liquidmetal Technologies for an exclusive license to use its technologies in the consumer electronics field. It was naturally assumed that Apple would use the technology in the iPhone enclosure or antenna; however, this report suggests that perhaps Apple's intent for the technology is more radical. CultofMac notes that a miniture fuel cell could power a mobile phone for more than 30 days and a notebook for 20 hours or more.

LG Optimus Black Ousts Apple iPhone 4 as World's Slimmest Smartphone

No comments:

LG Electronics has unveiled a new Android smartphone, the LG Optimus Black, that features a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display in the world's slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device.

--
Available for the first time in the mobile market, LG Optimus Black's NOVA display is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility. LG Optimus Black provides users with an easier and more natural experience when browsing the web, reading emails, or writing documents with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones that deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing. NOVA technology featured on LG Optimus Black also enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition to greater luminosity, the NOVA display on LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED consumes twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing. Combined with the 1500 mAh battery of the LG Optimus Black, users will have enough power for their daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.

Users will never be out of style with the LG Optimus Black's ultra slim 9.2 mm design. Making a strong visual statement, LG Optimus Black weighs only 109g and offers sleek lines and smooth edges that improve handheld grip. Tapering down to the world's thinnest smartphone profile of 6.0 mm, LG Optimus Black's subtle back arch helps to create the illusion of even greater slimness. Unique to the LG Optimus Black, the flush and flawless finish of the front display is achieved by innovatively hiding the Invisible Receiver behind the edges of the phone.
--

The LG Optimus Black will be rolled out globally in the first half of 2011.

Machined Aluminum iPad 2 Mockup Found at CES

No comments:

Engadget stumbled across a iPad case at CES that contained a machined aluminum iPad 2 mockup inside.

Dexim is the eager exhibitor, with an actually very intriguing case design involving a Bluetooth keyboard that magnetically adheres to the front cover of the book-like sleeve, allowing for a laptop-style setup, or a keyboard-free case when you want to shave a few ounces. It was so intriguing that we asked to put our own iPad inside, which is when we were told it wouldn't fit, since the case was designed for the next iPad.

Check out some pictures of the mockup below...

90 MegaPixel Mosaic of Steve Jobs on Black and White

No comments:

This mosaic of Steve Jobs made from Apple products was created for Italian magazine Panorama by Tsevis Visual Design, reports MacStories.

"These are my latest twin portraits of Steve Jobs. I created them for Panorama, Italy's Number 1 weekly magazine. The creative director of the magazine requested a 'white on white' portrait where Steve Jobs was to be illustrated with all of Apple's white products. I created the mosaic but then became curious with what a black version would look like. The Panorama team included the initial portrait on the latest cover of the the financial section of the magazine - Panorama Economy.

I'm not really sure which of the two I prefer but i'll probably print them both, one next to the other, for my office...

These mosaics are made with custom developed scripts, hacks and lots of love, using my Mac, Studio Artist, the Adobe Creative Suite and good music."

You can check out the portrait below on a white and black background.

Griffin Crayola ColorStudio HD Turns Your iPad Into a Coloring Book

No comments:

Griffen's Crayola ColorStudio HD couples a multi-activity drawing application for iPad (Crayola ColorStudio HD App) with a custom-built digital stylus, called Crayola iMarker. Together with iMarker, the ColorStudio HD App allows young artists to color and interact with special "live" animated coloring book pages that move and react as they color, combining custom-produced pictures, animations, music, sound effects, and high quality special effects.

Like a marker, crayon, pen, and paintbrush in one, iMarker creates favorite Crayola colors within the ColorStudio HD App. iMarker safely interacts with iPad's Multi-Touch display, allowing the ColorStudio HD app to differentiate between the child’s input (fingers, swipes, etc.) and the iMarker automatically. This allows intuitive, creative play that brings the accuracy and ease of a stylus but, for the first time, allows the user to both manipulate the creative space and color, without having to toggle the app between modes.

The ColorStudio HD App features a large, built-in library of art that provides hundreds of hours of play in themed environments like undersea, jungle and playtime activities.

The App even lets the user design an unlimited number of their own animated coloring book pages. Kids can color them in the app, or print them out from iPad (iOS 4.2 or later) to color with Crayola Crayons and Markers. ColorStudio HD also contains more than 50 immersive game and activity pages, like Musical Dot 2 Dot and Color by Numbers, that combine special effects, music, motion, and more. Parents can share their favorite art pieces via a share feature by printing, emailing, or posting the art to Facebook. ColorStudio HD will include free content updates at regular intervals after launch, continually providing kids with fresh and exciting activities.

The ColorStudio HD kit is coming in Spring 2011 for US$29.95.
