New MobileMe Calendar is Now Available to All Members

No comments:

The new MobileMe Calendar is now out of beta and available to all members.

To start using the new calendar (see system requirements below), sign in to me.com/calendar, click "Upgrade now" in the lower left corner of the Calendar web application, and follow the instructions. If you have already been using the Calendar beta, you don't need to do anything.

Here are the highlights of the new MobileMe Calendar:

The best calendar service for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
The new MobileMe Calendar works great with the built-in calendar app on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch by always keeping it in sync with your Mac or PC. New events or changes are automatically pushed to your iOS 4 devices so your calendar stays up to date. If you schedule a meeting on your device, that's pushed everywhere too.

Share calendars with family and friends
You can easily share your calendars with one or more MobileMe members to keep everyone on the same page. For example, create a shared calendar called "Family" for weekend activities. You can allow the person you're sharing a calendar with to edit events, and you can set up email notifications to tell you when they make a change.

Publish a calendar for a group or team
The new MobileMe Calendar lets you share a read-only public calendar, perfect for publishing an events calendar such as a soccer team schedule. After setting it up, you can send the team members a link to view the calendar on their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.

Event invitations with RSVPs
You can also invite guests to an event from MobileMe Calendar. Just add their email address to the event (they don't have to be a MobileMe member) and your guests will get an invitation email they can respond to directly by clicking a link. Your event then automatically updates, making it easy to track RSVPs right in your calendar.

New web application
MobileMe Calendar includes a new web application at me.com with great-looking calendar views. You'll find redesigned day, week, and month views, as well as a new list view to make scanning your events easier. The new web application works best with Safari 5, Firefox 3.6, and Internet Explorer 8.

System Requirements:
● iPhone or iPod touch: iOS 4.1
● iPad: iOS 3.2; iOS 4.2 (coming in November) required for push calendar updates
● Mac: Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4
● PC: MobileMe Control Panel version 1.6.3 and Outlook 2007 or 2010

John Sculley Says It Was A 'Big Mistake' That Apple Made Him CEO

No comments:

John Sculley was hired as CEO of Apple in 1983 causing a power struggle between him and founder Steve Jobs that eventually led to Jobs being ousted from the company.

CultofMac has published an interview with the former CEO in which he states that it was a big mistake for Apple to have ever hired him.

Looking back, it was a big mistake that I was ever hired as CEO. I was not the first choice that Steve wanted to be the CEO. He was the first choice, but the board wasn’t prepared to make him CEO when he was 25, 26 years old.

They exhausted all of the obvious high-tech candidates to be CEO… Ultimately, David Rockefeller, who was a shareholder in Apple, said let’s try a different industry and let’s go to the top head hunter in the United States who isn’t in high tech: Jerry Roach.

They went and recruited me. I came in not knowing anything about computers. The idea was that Steve and I were going to work as partners. He would be the technical person and I would be the marketing person.

The reason why I said it was a mistake to have hired me as CEO was Steve always wanted to be CEO. It would have been much more honest if the board had said, "Let's figure out a way for him to be CEO. You could focus on the stuff that you bring and he focuses on the stuff he brings."

Check out the transcript of the extensive interview which covers numerous interesting topics at this link...

The iPad 2 in White With an iPhone 4 Design [Video]

No comments:

Check out this design concept for a white iPad 2 with an iPhone 4 design from Joy Studios.

Design-wise it resembles an enlarged iPhone 4 with the same metal band around the edges and the same glass exterior. Additions include a front-facing 3-megapixel camera for FaceTime and an SD card slot for removable storage. There’s also a mini HDMI output suggesting that you could hook up your iPad 2 to an HD Ready TV - FaceTime on a 32-inch plasma anyone?

How to Keep YouTube Audio Playing in the Background

No comments:

You can keep YouTube audio playing in the background on your iPhone by using the web app instead of the native app.

Here's the steps as outlined by LifeHacker.

1. Start the video in the web app.
2. Press the home key once. This will exit Safari, and stop playback.
3. Double-tap the home key. This will bring up the dock (with all of your currently running programs).
4. Tap the dock with one finger and slide it to the right to reveal the background audio controls. There will be a single icon on the right side that corresponds to whichever program you last used with background audio - in this case, Safari.
5. Press the Play button. The audio from your YouTube video will resume playback, and you can then lock the phone (turn off the screen), switch to a different app, or do whatever you want, and it will continue playing in the background.

Foxconn Confirms Increased Manufacturing Quotes

No comments:

Foxconn has confirmed that it is increasing its manufacturing quotes for customers such as Apple. This is due to the increased labor and component costs the company is faced with.

According to DigiTimes, competitors like BYD and Compal Communication are offering lower quotes to nab orders from clients that are unhappy with Foxconn's higher prices.

A Foxconn spokesperson pointed out that most clients have already agreed to the new quotes, while some are still in negotiations. The spokesperson also refuted the sources claims about competition saying that since most handset makers are facing the same increases in labor and component costs as Foxconn, competitors are unlikely to drop their quotes for orders.

No word on whether Apple agreed to higher costs.
