PwnageTool to Be Released By Sunday

No comments:

MuscleNerd has tweeted that the iPhone Dev-Team plans to release PwnageTool for iOS 4.1 by Sunday.

For AppleTV 2G users, the goal is for PwnageTool to cover you by Funday/Sunday (but still very limited app capability)

Two jailbreak utilities for iOS 4.1 have already been released. Limera1n and Greenpois0n. Unfortunately, both utilities are Windows only. Mac versions are said to be coming soon; however, that date can't come soon enough for many users.

PwnageTool has previously been a Mac only tool. This release should also bring the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad jailbreak to Mac users.

Financial Times iPad App Generates $1.6 Million in Ad Revenue

No comments:

The Financial Times iPad app has reportedly generated more than $1.6 million in advertising since its launch in May, according to a Guardian report.

Ben Hughes, who is also the paper's global commercial director, said more than 400,000 people have downloaded the app. He added that it now accounts for 10% of the paper's new digital subscriptions.

"My job is to make the FT brand sweat," he told the MediaGuardian Changing Advertising Summit. "Print [advertising] isn't dead but media owners are just having to find new ways to put [different models] together."

Test Driving the Driverless Google Car

No comments:

Google has been working in secret on a vehicle that can drive itself using artificial intelligence software, according to the NYT.

With someone behind the wheel to take control if something goes awry and a technician in the passenger seat to monitor the navigation system, seven test cars have driven 1,000 miles without human intervention and more than 140,000 miles with only occasional human control. One even drove itself down Lombard Street in San Francisco, one of the steepest and curviest streets in the nation. The only accident, engineers said, was when one Google car was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light.

Apple iPad Named T3's Gadget of the Year

No comments:

T3 has given Apple's iPad their Gadget of the Year award.

Always switched on, sophisticated enough to please real gadget heads and simple enough for your dad to use, this scaled-up iPod Touch sells itself more effectively than any gadget we've seen. When we took two iPads to the Gadget Show Live in April, they were the talk of the show. Everyone who picked one up, even those who were initially sceptical, was soon flicking, tilting and pinching their way through the built-in apps, hypnotised by the 9.7-inch, hi-res screen and the innate simplicity of the OS.

The iPhone was named the Commuter Gadget of the Year but lost out to the HTC Desire as Phone of the Year. The MacBook Pro was awarded as the Computer of the Year and Apple was named Retailer of the Year.

Apple Posts Ping Artist Guide and Best Practices

No comments:

Apple has posted a guide for artists looking to create a Ping artist profile on iTunes 10.

Once you have received an email approving your Ping artist profile, you’re ready to create it and start posting. Follow the steps and guidelines in this document to get your profile up and running, and to ensure that your posts are error-free.

iTunes Content Policies:
• Videos, photos, and text posts should not contain pornography, hate speech, racism, nudity, or any references to or depictions of drug use.
• Posts should not include advertisements or links to sites outside of iTunes.
• Posts should not contain links to other content providers.
• URLs should not be included in the About section of your artist profile. This includes official artist
website URLs. URLs can only be posted in the Event feed.
• Only upload photos and videos that you have a legal right to share.
• For the Music I Like section of your artist profile, we recommend that you don’t pick the same album multiple times, and that you don’t pick only your own music. Fans are eager to find new music that their favorite artists are listening to and downloading.
• Do not create your artist profile until you are ready to make a post or two. Fans will be far more likely to follow you if they can tell that your profile is active.

You can read the entire guide at this link...

Walmart Confirmed to Carry the iPad at 2,300 Stores By Mid-November

No comments:

Walmart has confirmed that it start selling the iPad on Friday at hundreds of stores across the United States, according to the WSJ.

Wal-Mart landed the tablet computer a little later than two of its largest retail rivals: Best Buy Co., which has been selling the iPad since its launch in April, and Target Corp., which began carrying it this month. The Bentonville, Ark., retail giant said that what it lacked in timeliness it will make up for in sales heft. It vowed to slowly ramp up the number of U.S. stores carrying the iPad to more than 2,300 by the height of the holiday season in mid-November.

Walmart will not be offering any special discounts on the iPad. Pricing will begin at the suggested retail price of $499.

No comments:

DeNA, a large Japanese social game company, is acquiring Ngmoco, an iPhone game development company, for $400 million, according to the New York Times.

This is one of the largest deals ever involving an iPhone application developer and yet another acquisition for DeNA, which has gone on a spending spree in its goal to become the world's #1 mobile gaming platform.

"The big tide in social gaming is coming, right now,T Tomoko Namba, the founder and chief executive of DeNA, said during an interview. "We’d like to capture it and quickly become the world’s No. 1 mobile gaming platform."

"We’re only active in the Japanese market, and we haven’t figured out how to cover the Western market," she said. "We want to enable developers to go cross-device and to go cross-border. And we need this to happen quickly, in about the next one or two years."

Back in February, Ngmoco raised $25 million in additional funding and acquired Freeverse, another popular iPhone game developer.
