Apple Approves Official Google Voice App?

No comments:

Apple has reportedly approved the official Google Voice application and it will be available soon, according to TechCrunch.

We’ve gotten word that the official Google Voice application is on its way to the iPhone in the next few weeks. In fact, we’ve heard from a source close to Google that it’s already been approved — Google just needs to revamp the application to work with the iPhone 4 and iOS’s multitasking capabilities. If you’re a Google Voice user and you’re on an iPhone, this is great news.

The FCC launched an investigation into the App Store policies after the much publicized rejection of Google Voice from the iPhone. Apple's representatives reportedly informed Google that the Google Voice application was rejected because Apple believed the application duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone. Apple denied Google's allegations and said, "We do not agree with all of the statements made by Google in their FCC letter. Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application and we continue to discuss it with Google."

iPhone Dev-Team Decrypts New Apple TV Firmware Keys

No comments:

The iPhone Dev-Team has already decrypted the new Apple TV's firmware keys using SHAtter and recommends that those interested in a "potential" jailbreak buy early.

It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys! The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:

31c700a852f1877c88efc05bc5c63e8c7f081c4cb28d024ed7f9b0dbc98c7e1406e499c6

If you’re familiar with vfdecrypt, you can use that key to decrypt the image and mount it. If you do so, feel free to use the comments section to discuss what you discover there :) (And of course, thanks @pod2g!)

Amazon to Launch Android App Store, Android Tablet?

No comments:

TechCrunch has learned that Amazon will soon launch an --11
Android App Store and possibly an Android Tablet.

Reported Details:
● For each sale of an App, we will pay you a royalty equal to the greater of 70% of the purchase price or 20% of the List Price as of the purchase date (70/30 is standard, this 20/80 split is somewhat odd and confusing)
● The List Price is apparently in place so that you can’t sell your app cheaper on other “similar services” — meaning other app stores, presumably
● The “similar services” should also include the forthcoming Chrome Web Store, if I’m reading this correctly
● There is a $99 fee to be a developer in this program (the same as Apple’s iOS developer program)
● It seems like if your app is available on other platforms, you have to make sure to update it at the same time on Amazon’s store that you do in any other store (this will piss off a lot of developers)
● Apps will have to be laced with Amazon DRM — meaning they will only work on devices they approve (obviously)
● Amazon has the right to pull any app for any reason (obviously)
● Apps can also be shown on amazon.com (this is up to Amazon)
● You can offer free apps
● The app store is U.S.-only (at least for now)
● This part is interesting too: “We have sole discretion to determine all features and operations of this program and to set the retail price and other terms on which we sell Apps.”

The same tipster that nailed details about the App Store has also said that Amazon is
planning an Android tablet.

Edit Google, SkyDrive and S3 Docs with iPad

No comments:

CloudDav from SMEStorage can be used to enable iPad iWork user to edit and save documents from Google Docs, SkyDrive, DropBox, Amazon S3, and other storage clouds that are not normally accessible from WebDav.

CloudDav enables WebDav access for storage clouds that are supported via the SMEStorage Cloud Gateway even when the underlying storage cloud itself does not support it. This makes it ideal for being able to access and edit documents using iWork which was recently WebDav enabled.

A free SMEStorage account is required in which the user adds the Cloud they want to access to the SMEStorage Cloud Gateway. CloudDav can be added as a value added extra feature for only $5 from Cloud Add-Ons which is available from the sidebar after login.

For existing and new iPhone and iPad users that purchased the iSMEStorage multi-cloud application, if they send a screenshot of their device with their login name visible we'll enable the WebDav service for their account free of charge. This offer is available until the end of 2010.

"This is another step forward in our efforts to offer value added services to the professional and business users who use our our Cloud Gateway appliance" stated Ian Osborne, CEO. "We intend to continue enabling users to gain acces to data from application and devices that would not normally be available to them."

Goldman Sachs Says New iPad Will Have Camera, Mini USB, Lighter Design

No comments:

Goldman Sachs says they believe that the Apple will introduce a new iPad with a camera, mini USB, and a lighter design in the spring of 2011, according to AppleInsider.

The analysts also said their checks found that "the 7-inch iPad project has not yet been finalized" and therefore said its "unlikely to be launched ahead of the new 9.7-inch iPad." According to the pair, the new 9.7-inch iPad "is targeted to be thinner and lighter, with an embedded camera and mini USB." It "could be launched in early" second quarter of 2011, they said.

Analysts Henry King and Kevin Lu believe that Hon Hai will stay the only manufacturer of the new 9.7-inch model, explaining that Apple is still undecided on a second partner to help build the tablets.

RIM Unveils New Blackberry PlayBook Tablet

No comments:

Research In Motion (RIM) today unveiled its new professional-grade BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and BlackBerry Tablet OS.

--
Perfect for either large organizations or an "army of one", the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to give users what they want, including uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, while also providing advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a breakthrough development platform for IT departments and developers. The incredibly powerful and innovative BlackBerry PlayBook is truly a game-changing product in the growing tablet marketplace.

"RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world's most robust and flexible operating systems," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia."

The Tablet You'll Want to Take Everywhere
This beautifully designed and incredibly powerful tablet is ultra portable, ultra thin and super convenient for both work and play. Measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing less than a pound, the BlackBerry PlayBook features a vivid 7" high resolution display that looks and feels great in your hand. With such a unique mix of utility, performance and portability, you’ll want to take it everywhere.

The New Benchmark in Tablet Performance
At its heart, the BlackBerry PlayBook is a multitasking powerhouse. Its groundbreaking performance is jointly fueled by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and the new BlackBerry Tablet OS which supports true symmetric multiprocessing. Together, the abundant processing power and highly sophisticated OS enable the BlackBerry PlayBook to provide users with true multitasking and a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen experience for apps and content services.

Uncompromised Web Browsing
With support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR and HTML-5, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides customers with an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience and offers them the ability to enjoy all of the sites, games and media on the web. For more than a decade, the mobile industry has worked to bridge the gap between the "real web" and mobile devices through various apps and technologies and, in fact, a significant number of mobile apps today still simply serve as a proxy for web content that already exists on the web. The BlackBerry PlayBook closes that gap and brings the real, full web experience to mobile users while also opening new and more exciting opportunities for developers and content publishers.

High Performance Multimedia
The BlackBerry PlayBook features premium multimedia features to support high-quality mobile experiences. It includes dual HD cameras for video capture and video conferencing that can both record HD video at the same time, and an HDMI-out port for presenting one's creations on external displays. The BlackBerry PlayBook also offers rich stereo sound and a media player that rivals the best in the industry.

BlackBerry Integration
For those BlackBerry PlayBook users who carry a BlackBerry smartphone, it will also be possible to pair their tablet and smartphone using a secure Bluetooth connection. This means they can opt to use the larger tablet display to seamlessly and securely view any of the email, BBM™, calendar, tasks, documents and other content that resides on (or is accessible through) their smartphone. They can also use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data. This secure integration of BlackBerry tablets and smartphones is a particularly useful feature for those business users who want to leave their laptop behind.

Enterprise Ready
Thanks to the seamless and secure Bluetooth pairing experience and the highly secure underlying OS architecture, the BlackBerry PlayBook is enterprise ready and compatible (out-of-the-box) with BlackBerry Enterprise Server. When connected over Bluetooth, the smartphone content is viewable on the tablet, but the content actually remains stored on the BlackBerry smartphone and is only temporarily cached on the tablet (and subject to IT policy controls). With this approach to information security, IT departments can deploy the BlackBerry PlayBook to employees out-of-the-box without worrying about all the security and manageability issues that arise when corporate data is stored on yet another device.

QNX Neutrino Reliability
The BlackBerry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture, one of the most reliable, secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. Neutrino has been field hardened for years and is being used to support mission-critical applications in everything from planes, trains and automobiles to medical equipment and the largest core routers that run the Internet. The new BlackBerry Tablet OS leverages and builds upon the many proven strengths of this QNX Neutrino architecture to support a professional grade tablet experience and to redefine the possibilities for mobile computing.

An OS Built for Developers
The Neutrino based microkernel architecture in the BlackBerry Tablet OS delivers exceptional performance, high scalability, Common Criteria EAL 4+ security, and support for industry standard tools that are already familiar to hundreds of thousands of developers. The OS is fully POSIX compliant enabling easy portability of C-based code, supports Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics intensive applications like gaming, and will run applications built in Adobe Mobile AIR as well as the new BlackBerry WebWorks app platform announced today (which will allow apps to be written to run on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets as well as BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry 6). The BlackBerry Tablet OS will also support Java enabling developers to easily bring their existing BlackBerry 6 Java applications to the BlackBerry Tablet OS environment.
