Syncs Macs And iOS Devices Wirelessly

1 comment:

nova media has unveiled iHub Basic for Mac OS X. iHub Basic syncs contacts and calendars automatically and wirelessly between Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPod touch in any local network. The software installs on a Mac and shares selected calendars, contacts and address book groups. Other Macs and iOS devices on the same network can access and edit any shared data. iHub Basic does not require any additional client software as it uses the open standards CalDAV and CardDAV which are supported by default by Mac OS X and iOS.

"Thanks to iHub Basic, there is no need to store sensitive data on any far-away cloud service.", states Jan Fuellemann, spokesperson of nova media. "In addition, the user does not have to use a cable and run iTunes just to add an appointment in the calendar or to change an address. And of course, there is no need to buy any expensive server solution to sync contacts and calendars any more."

iHub Basic runs as an invisible server application in the background and does not require users to be logged on the Mac where it is installed. Other Macs can sync their data via WiFi and/or Ethernet. iPhones, iPads and iPod touch require a WiFi connection to be synchronised.

iHub Basic can use the integrated MoHub technology by nova media to set up an ad-hoc WiFi network with just a few clicks. This way, all devices can be sychronised even if no network is available at all. iHub Basic saves contacts and calendars from the last 14 days automatically and allows a quick restore of this data in case an unwanted change has been synchronised.

Pricing and Availability:
iHub Basic is available today for Euro 29.95 including VAT ($29.95 USD plus VAT for residents in the US and Canada) at nova media's website. iHub Basic requires Mac OS X 10.6 or higher to install. Synchronisation of calendars requires Mac OS X 10.5.x, iOS 3.x on the clients. Synchronization of contacts requires Mac OS X 10.6.x, iOS 4.x on the clients. Press licenses are available on request.

Du Confirms No FaceTime for the UAE

No comments:

Du, a mobile carrier in the UAE, has confirmed that the iPhone 4's Facetime feature won't be available in their country.

Our iPhone 4 customers won't be able to make Facetime calls, as this feature is currently unavailable in the UAE.

Sorry but it's disabled in all iPhone 4 models in the UAE.

There's little we can do about it, but we'll keep you posted in case of further updates.

The exact reason for the lack of Facetime isn't clear; however, it's thought that the government may be involved in the restriction.

Department of Justice Reaches Settlement With Apple and Others

No comments:

The Department of Justice announced today that it has reached a settlement with six high technology companies – Adobe Systems Inc., Apple Inc., Google Inc., Intel Corp., Intuit Inc. and Pixar – that prevents them from entering into no solicitation agreements for employees. The department said that the agreements eliminated a significant form of competition to attract highly skilled employees, and overall diminished competition to the detriment of affected employees who were likely deprived of competitively important information and access to better job opportunities.

The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division filed a civil antitrust complaint today in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, along with a proposed settlement that, if approved by the court, would resolve the lawsuit.

The department said in its complaint:
● Beginning no later than 2006, Apple and Google executives agreed not to cold call each other’s employees. Apple placed Google on its internal “Do Not Call List,” which instructed employees not to directly solicit employees from the listed companies. Similarly, Google listed Apple among the companies that had special agreements with Google and were part of the “Do Not Cold Call” list;
● Beginning no later than May 2005, senior Apple and Adobe executives agreed not to cold call each other’s employees. Apple placed Adobe on its internal “Do Not Call List” and similarly, Adobe included Apple in its internal list of “Companies that are off limits”;
● Beginning no later than April 2007, Apple and Pixar executives agreed not to cold call each other’s employees. Apple placed Pixar on its internal “Do Not Call List” and senior executives at Pixar instructed human resources personnel to adhere to the agreement and maintain a paper trail;
● Beginning no later than September 2007, Google and Intel executives agreed not to cold call each other’s employees. In its hiring policies and protocol manual, Google listed Intel among the companies that have special agreements with Google and are part of the “Do Not Cold Call” list. Similarly, Intel instructed its human resources staff about the existence of the agreement; and
● In June 2007, Google and Intuit executives agreed that Google would not cold call any Intuit employee. In its hiring policies and protocol manual, Google also listed Intuit among the companies that have special agreements with Google and are part of the “Do Not Cold Call” list.

The proposed settlement, which if accepted by the court will be in effect for five years, prohibits the companies from engaging in anticompetitive no solicitation agreements. Although the complaint alleges only that the companies agreed to ban cold calling, the proposed settlement more broadly prohibits the companies from entering, maintaining or enforcing any agreement that in any way prevents any person from soliciting, cold calling, recruiting, or otherwise competing for employees. The companies will also implement compliance measures tailored to these practices.

Apple Introduces the iPod Ninja [Humor]

No comments:

A little more than a week after Apple CEO Steve Jobs was reportedly prevented from taking Ninja stars out of Japan, the company has unveiled the iPod ninja, according to Scoopertino.

Today Apple announced the "dangerously cool" iPod ninja, the last of the new 2010 iPod family. This razor-thin iPod combines the fun of entertainment with the thrill of lethal weaponry. And it’s super-easy to buy.

"iPod ninja fits into that sweet spot between the iPod touch and a small handgun," says Apple spokesperson Ted Wetmore. "It gives you peace of mind. You can either enjoy your music on the device — or you can fling it at anyone who looks at you funny. With a little practice, you can take down a foe at 50 feet."

However, there is a dark side to the new iPod. As iPod ninja sales boom, some blogs are already reporting a “death grip” problem even worse than the one that plagued iPhone 4. If you hold iPod ninja in a certain way, you may require immediate medical care.

Viacom Says $.99 Rentals Are Too Cheap, CBS Will Wait and See

No comments:

Viacom says that $.99 rentals via the Apple TV is too cheap and CBS says that it will wait and see, according to a WSJ report.

"The 99-cent rental is not a good price point," said Viacom Inc. Chief Executive Philippe Dauman at a conference hosted by Goldman Sachs. "It doesn't work for us."

"We value our content a lot," Dauman said. "We don't think Apple has it quite right yet."

CBS on the other hand took a different approach. "What we said to them—and the Apple guys are terrific and obviously the application is terrific—is let us see what happens," CBS Chief Executive Les Moonves. "There are two networks in and two networks not in. Let's see what happens and maybe we'll talk again in January, maybe we'll talk again next year."

The new AppleTV was expected to ship late this month; however, recent news suggests that it may have been delayed.

Upcoming 7-inch iPad Looks Like the iPhone 4?

No comments:

Apple's 7-inch iPad is already a finished product and looks more like the iPhone 4 then the original, according to a Shanzai report.

Yes there will be a 7” tablet, yes it’s well underway in terms of product development and in fact it’s a finished product. Yes 5 plus different designs have been floating around to help Apple protect itself from people discovering its next product look and feel but... the final design will in fact bear more resemblance to the iPhone 4 stylings than the original iPad design.

This is at least the fourth prediction of a 7-inch iPad. The Economic Daily, DigiTimes, and iLounge have all reported on the unannounced and unreleased device.
