Searchware Solutions Announces Print Window 4.1

No comments:

Searchware Solutions has announced the immediate availability of Print Window 4.1, the latest version of their highly acclaimed Finder window printing utility for Mac OS X. Print Window is a simple yet powerful tool to generate and print file/directory listings of the currently selected window or folder, giving users complete control over the way file listings work, what folders are listed and the final printed format.

Print Window works seamlessly with the Mac OS X Finder. Create and print a file listing directly from the Finder using several different methods, including a contextual menu item, the Dock menu, the Finder Serivces menu or using a keyboard shortcut. Users have complete control over what files and folders are printed and how those file listings appear.

Version 4.1 adds several new features:
* Added the option to print only folders and not any files contained in the folders
* Added the option to use QuickLook to generate icons for supported file types (Print Window Advanced Only)
* Added the option to bold names of folders in file listings
* Added services support for Mac OS X 10.6 or greater. A "Print File Listing..." option will appear in the Services menu in the Finder when a folder is selected
* Added an option, when using the "File" format, to use the full Unix path of a file in place of the name
* Revised progress window. Now takes less space and better differentiates different levels
* Now allows icon sizes up to 256x256 when using Names Only layout

Version 4.1 also addresses several issues in previous releases:
* When selecting "Print File Listing..." from the File menu, the select folder dialog now defaults to the currently displayed folder in the Finder (if any)
*The "Print"/"Save" button in the Print Options window is no longer enabled if none of the fields in the "Fields & Sorting" tab are selected
* Toolbar in Preferences window should now appear and behave correctly under Mac OS X 10.5 or greater
* Fixed a problem that could cause some controls to not respond in the Preferences window
* Fixed a problem that could cause the number of columns for the "Names Only" style when using the "Media Cover" format to default to "0"
* Fixed a problem where some bundled files would incorrectly appear in the "Manually Expand Folders" list in the Print Option window
* Fixed a problem that could cause the "Bring Finder to the Front after Launch" preference to not function correctly under Mac OS X 10.6.x
* Fixed a problem that could cause Print Window to not quit after a file listing is completed, even though "Quit when Printing is Complete" is selected in the Preferences window

Print Window 4.1 is a free update for registered users of Print Window Advanced Edition Version 4.0 through 4.0.2. Searchware Solutions recommends all users of Print Window 4.0.x update to Version 4.1.

Print Window is available in two versions: Standard and Advanced. Both versions are available from within the same application. When first installed and launched, Print Window will operate in Advanced mode for 30 days. After 30 days, Print Window will revert to Standard mode until the user purchases a license.

Print Window Advanced allows users to create CD jewel case and DVD case covers from file listings, as well as save them as tab-delimited text and Microsoft Excel files. Advanced users can also generate listings of thumbnails of folders of pictures.

Pricing and Availability:
Print Window Standard Edition is free for unlimited use. Print Window Advanced Edition is $20 (USD) per user. Volume licensing is available: $130 for a 10 user/single-site license (a 35% savings) and $1000 for an Unlimited Worldwide License.

iAd for Developers Sees 75% Renewal Rate

No comments:

iAd for Developers, a program that lets developers use iAds to promote their app in other applications, is beginning to get better reviews.

According to a report by the LATimes, iAd click rates tend to be higher than using mobile ad networks like Google-owned AdMob; however, companies are starting to realize favorable results.

"Even though they're more expensive," Janner, the chief executive of Springpad, wrote in an e-mail, "the fact that they're new, and that the user can download Springpad without leaving the app they're in has resulted in a better cost per download for us."

Ngmoco vice president of marketing Clive Downie said, "It's moderately successful, and cost effectiveness is increasing. We use many advertising streams so finding the perfect place for iAd in the overall life cycle of a product is still an objective for us."

The LATimes spoke with nearly a dozen iAd developer who expressed enthusiasm for the program.

This follows an early report by David Smith who found the iAd for Developers program to be "disappointing" and "ineffective" in marketing his Audiobooks Premium app.

Apple is now saying that 75% of those who bought into iAd for Developers have either renewed their trial or increased their spending.

"We're thrilled by the response to the iAd for Developers program, which is a great way for developers to advertise their own apps to millions of users," said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

Adobe Says Change in Apple Policy Has 'Muted' Impact

No comments:

Adobe says Apple's change in App Store policies has 'muted' impact in the short run, according to a report by mobile-ent.biz.

The company announced record revenues of $990.3 million for its fiscal third quarter, which ended on 3 September. During the following analyst call, CEO Shantanu Narayen talked down the change in App Store policies that now permits apps made with middleware tools such as Adobe Flash Packager.

"In the short run, I would say the impact was muted," he said, although he also pointed out that the day Apple announced its new policy, several developers who'd used Flash Packager submitted apps to the App Store, which were subsequently approved.

"Strong performance in each of our major businesses contributed to record revenue and strong earnings in Q3. We remain bullish about Adobe's long-term role in enabling the transformation of content and applications across industries."

Have Fun Exploring the World With What Country

No comments:

Apalon has announced the release of What Country 1.0 for iPhone and iPod touch. What Country is an unusual collection of humorous photos spiced up with curious facts that are able to impress those who love travelling and who do not.

The core element of the app is the interactive world map with icons attributed to certain countries and descriptions consisting of just 3-5 keywords featuring particular countries. By tapping on a thumbnail of a country a user gets an access to the gallery of amazing images representing each country with not less amazing stories behind them. The initial content is obtained though the content deals with photographers around the world and will be updated through user-generated mechanisms built into the application.

What Country is built on Apalon's app gallery solution, which is used by bestseller iPhone apps such as Dream Home and Eye Illusions. That guarantees users engaging experience and easy navigation through the collection. One of the main features of the app is its interactive component. Users can rate photos they like, add them to Favorites and upload their own pictures complementing them with background information.

"Lots of people around the world love travelling and surprisingly even more do not. As a frequent traveler I met many people that heard about 10 or 15 countries at most. We wanted to change that with our What Country app that even non-travelers will want to own. It highlights only 3 or 4 key facts about each country and presents them in entertaining way that will make them laugh or smile." - said Peter Melnikov, VP of Apalon.

Pricing and Availability:
What Country 1.0 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Travel category.
