Tales2Go 2.0 Released

No comments:

Tales2Go has released Tales2Go v2.0, an update to its Parents' Choice Award-winning kids' audio story subscription service for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Version 2.0 offers significant product enhancements, including limited caching of one story or chapter; a sharing feature that lets users email story links to friends and family; and iPhone iOS 4 multitasking, allowing users to play stories in the background while activating other applications.

As part of the new release, Tales2Go is also introducing new, flexible pricing plans. In addition to annual subscriptions, the company is now offering monthly and quarterly pricing options, as well as the ability to register and use up to five devices per account/subscription.

"Many of these enhancements have come at the request of Tales2Go's current users," said William Weil, Co-Founder and CEO of Tales2Go. "Not only have we improved the product, but we are also offering new pricing plans that allow users to enjoy Tales2Go on a one-off basis. For example, now users will be able to purchase a one-month subscription for just $2.99, which might come in handy on a specific car trip or vacation. In addition, every user will now be able to register up to five devices per account/subscription, which is sure to be popular with families that own multiple Apple devices."

With caching on Version 2.0, users now have the ability to stream a story or chapter to a device, and then, via a buffering indicator, see that it has been temporarily stored on the device. This feature allows the user to finish listening to a story or chapter beyond a WiFi or carrier signal area. Initially, limited caching will only work with one story or chapter, however plans are underway to develop a more comprehensive caching function. The new Tales2Go sharing feature lets users send emails to friends and family with links to a particular story recommendation, launched from within the player. Finally, Version 2.0 adds the popular multitasking feature introduced as part of the iPhone iOS 4 operating system, making the Tales2Go application even easier to use on the go.

Tales2Go is a first-of-its kind subscription kids' story app that gives parents and caregivers instant, on-demand and unlimited access to over 1,200 stories from leading audio publishers (such as Scholastic and Recorded Books) and award-winning storytellers (such as Bill Harley, Donald Davis and Heather Forest). Stories range from fairytales to classics (such as Curious George Rides a Bike) to popular series and characters (such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

Tales2Go is powered by streaming technology from Stitcher Radio, the leading news/talk audio app on smartphones.

Pricing and Availability
Tales2Go is available in the App Store in the Education category (North America). Tales2Go offers a free 30-day trial for all new customers, then three unlimited access plans:

$2.99 for a One-Month subscription
$6.99 for a Three-Month subscription
$24.99 for an Annual subscription

NextGamez Releases Squirrel Goes Nuts 1.1

No comments:

Dutch game development studio NextGamez has announced Squirrel Goes Nuts 1.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. You are a Squirrel with a mission: to collect as many nuts as possible and grab the key nut. The more nuts you get in one jump, the higher your score will be. So lets go Nuts!

On your journey through the trees, you will come across several different types of surfaces, each with their own property that affect the squirrel jumps. Destruction and hunger are two elements you need to stop this squirrels appetite. The game features simple game mode of operation, with fun items to the game, as well as OpenFeint features that make your scores and achievements one to compete with global players.

Basic Score:
* First Nuts(brown) collected: 10 points
* Second golden nuts (in the same jump): 11 points
* Third (in the same jump): 12 points
* And so on. Gold nuts double these scores

Time Bonus:
* Time left / Total time x 200 points
* The time bonus is only awarded if a level is cleared
* Freeing collected bonus: (collected nuts / Total amount of nuts)10 x level multiplier
* Level multiplier for level 1: 500
* Level multiplier for level 2: 750
* Level multiplier for level 3: 1000

Combo Bonus:
The Combo Bonus listed in the game is simply the extra points you got for collecting nuts in one jump.

You have an infinite amount of jumps, so try to get into position to ensure that you get as many nuts possible in one jump. Falling straight down from the ceiling is an efficient way of catching many nuts at once. As long as you don't click again, it is counted as one jump for scoring purposes. Use this to your advantage by sliding and bouncing.

Pricing and Availability:
Squirrel Goes Nuts 1.1 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.

Draw, Add Icons to Passed Out Friends

No comments:

SellYourMac has released Drunk Sharpie 1.2, the latest version for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. This is the latest update for the application that allows users to draw on and add embarrassing icons to pictures of their drunk, passed out friends before sharing the photo with others. This update precedes the upcoming launch of Drunk Sharpie Pro, which will offer one hundred plus more icons to the already generous selection.

Within the Drunk Sharpie app, users are able to choose a sharpie size and color with which to draw on a newly snapped or previously saved photo of a friend who has passed out from being drunk. There is a satisfying selection of funny icons for users to add to the photo too, such as a plunger, feather duster, blowup doll and other embarrassing props. Everything is included to create the perfect humiliating picture.

All of this serves to replace actually drawing on passed out people. There is no longer any need to take red lipstick to someone's face, and anyone who has ever tried to get that off will be especially thankful for this app. Naturally, when a person finds something hilarious, they want to spread it around. Once a user has completed their creation, they are able to share the fun with others by posting to either their own or Drunk Sharpie's FaceBook page, a Twitter account, via email or MMS.

These are some of the features that users get when they download Drunk Sharpie:
* Easy to use interface
* Absolute tons of fun
* Use photos from a camera roll or library, or snap new ones with the camera
* Choose the perfect size and color of sharpie for any creation
* Select from a hilarious list of cool and embarrassing icons to include
* Share via FaceBook, Twitter, email, MMS and Drunk Sharpie FaceBook page
* Built-in help and how-to video
* Prevents physical marking of the body (it's easier, too)
* Coming soon - Drunk Sharpie Pro with 100 more icons! Watch for the launch

This update precedes the upcoming launch of Drunk Sharpie Pro, which SellYourMac developers already have in the works. The Pro version will offer one hundred plus more icons to the already generous selection.

Pricing and Availability:
Drunk Sharpie 1.2 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Entertainment category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Unique and Universal Fully GPS Controlled Game App

No comments:

Fraga-Games has launched Kickin' Fraga 1.0 a unique, new product for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Developed to work universally on all three iDevices, Kickin' Fraga is the world's first fully GPS controlled game app. The application's avatar moves only when the user does, working solely by a change in the user's physical location within a designated area. That means fun and exercise as a user runs around to play the game and progress the avatar. Kickin' Fraga is only the first release in a planned series of GPS positional games from fraga-games.

Kickin' Fraga is a new launch and a unique product offering. It is, to date anyway, the first and only GPS driven action game app available on the market. The only way for users to play is to move. The game has been developed for use outdoors. A player merely lets the GPS find his or her location to begin. From there on in, the avatar will only move in sync with the player, who must use his or her legs to get the game's avatar around the area. There is a lot of fun to be had in this application, whose gameplay also provides the benefit of exercise and fresh air.

Users who download the Kickin' Fraga app get to enjoy some great features:
* First and only fully GPS controlled game app in existence to date
* Great outdoor activity - exercise, fun and fresh air
* Universally designed to work perfectly on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
* Free and frequent updates!

According to the Fraga-Games design team, Kickin' Fraga is just the beginning. The company plans on launching a series of other unique GPS positional games and are looking into developing multi-player versions that would allow users from all over the world to compete with each other.

Pricing and Availability:
Kickin' Fraga 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Demolition Master Game for iPhone and iPad

No comments:

Make just one tap and watch a real explosion under your finger capable of destroying different complicated structures. Now this sound interesting, right? Then you will enjoy the Demolition Master game brought to you by AppMania.

In Demolition Master 2.0, you will be set out on a search of legendary and mysterious Atlantis, and to make your trip around the world quicker and more exciting, the game developers came up with this explosive pastime. You need to plant dynamite somewhere on the structures and ... Bang!

Just make sure that the debris from destroyed structures don't fall beyond the limiting line or get lower than the indicated level. As for the rest of it you are free to do whatever you want!

Everything is simple and clear, there are no heroes and anti-heroes that we've all already had enough of, no jaded plots, and excessive additional elements. There's just you, dynamite and lively and realistic explosions. And that's what makes the Demolition Master so great cause you get exactly what you're paying for that is a chance to merely demolish.

And if you think that the game will be too simple for you, well it's not the case because the game is easy just in the beginning, later on in the game you'll have to really use you brain power to place the dynamite right and figure out the possible path of falling debris. You could really use whatever you remember from your physics classes you had at school.

Overall, the game will take you to nine countries, the USA, Peru, Greece, Egypt, Russia, China, Australia, the Arctic, and sure enough the long-sought Atlantis. Also you will be assigned with different tasks from a rather simple demolition of a structure down to dust (when the limiting mark is almost at the ground level) to developing a strategy for blowing up the most complicated structures, and that's when you might want to use your bonus dynamite charges.

Pricing and Availability:
Demolition Master 2.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. If you still hesitate whether to buy the Demolition Master or not, try out its free version with two available locations (30 levels).

Apps Can Block AirPlay By Not Using Built-In Video Player

No comments:

Application developers can prevent their app media from being streamed to other devices by building a custom player, according to a DaringFireball report.

Apps using the built-in media controller views get AirPlay out for free. Apps that don’t (like Hulu) need to roll their own using AVFoundation.

This was a concern for developers who build apps that display content only licensed for mobile devices.

Best Buy Says Reports of Notebook Sales Declines Grossly Exaggerated

No comments:

In a statement today, Brian J. Dunn, CEO of Best Buy, likened recent rumors of a pending decline in notebook and netbook sales to a legendary Mark Twain-ism:

"The reports of the demise of these devices are grossly exaggerated," Dunn said. "While they were fueled in part by a comment in the Wall Street Journal that was attributed to me, they are not an accurate depiction of what we're currently seeing. In fact, we see some shifts in consumption patterns, with tablet sales being an incremental opportunity. And as we said during our recent earnings call, we believe computers will remain a very popular gift this holiday because of the very distinct and desirable benefits they offer consumers. That's why we intend to carry a broad selection of computing products and accessories to address the demand we anticipate this season."

Although Dunn has declared the situation grossly exaggerated, notebook sales have reached negative growth for the first time ever.

*thanks iclarified*

I was at a best buy earlier this week and could agree that notebook sales are still good. I was helping my friend choose a Mac book pro and while at the register ( for over and hour ) I noticed that there where 4ipads, roughly 15 or so windows pc's and 5 OSX pc's.

No comments:

The first of what may be many Google Voice apps has hit the App Store and it's not the anticipated GV Mobile app by Sean Kovacs but an entirely new app.

GV Connect is a native iPhone/iPod Touch application which allows you to interact with your existing "Google Voice" account much faster than using the web interface:

• Send and receive text messages (SMS) from your Google Voice number.
• Listen to voicemails and recorded conversations right on your device (allowing you to pause, rewind, or fast forward to any point within the message) - voicemails will also show the transcription of the message when available.
• Mark messages as starred, attach notes to conversations, block/unblock senders, or delete conversations.
• Easily search in your history by contact, message, or note.
• Messages are stored on your device for offline access.
• Composing notes and text messages can be done in landscape mode.
• Quickly change various Google Voice account settings (call forwarding, do-not-disturb, message notifications, …) directly from within the application.
• Automatic checking for new messages while the application is active.
• Direct access to your device's contacts without needing to synchronize them with Google
• All communication is done with the Google Voice website directly, no need to hand over your account information to a third-party.

Apple may be developing a digital newsstand for the iPad that is similar to the iBookstore for books, according to a Bloomberg report. The newsstand, designed particularly for the iPad, would be similar to Apple’s iBook store for electronic books, said the people, who declined to be identified because the negotiations are private. The newsstand would be separate from Apple’s App Store, where people can buy some publications now, they said. Issues still to be resolved involve who controls data about users, how to split subscription revenue, and pricing. "These are serious discussions about subscriptions and advertising within newspaper and magazine applications," said Roger Fidler, the program director for digital publishing at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri. "Publishers want to know who their customers are and their usage patterns while reading." It's thought that the newsstand is still months away from being released and may be released alongside the next iPad.

Apple Forces Newsday to Stop Airing Viral Ad for its iPad App?

No comments:

Apple has forced Newsday to stop airing an ad for their iPad application that shows the iPad being accidentally destroyed in an attempt to swat a fly, according to NetworkWorld.

The video disappeared from YouTube with Newsday saying: "We have taken the commercial 'Flypaper' down and its short, glorious run appears to be over." Newsday would not say why.

NetworkWorld has since received this message from someone wishing to stay anonymous:

"Newsday got a cease and desist letter threatening all of our apps, if we did not remove the commercial immediately. They took exception to the fact that the (iPad) glass shattered into large jagged pieces ... Your instincts are correct."

We've tried to embed a working copy of the video below... Hopefully it stays up.

Notebook Sales See Negative Growth Following iPad Launch

No comments:

Notebook sales saw negative growth in August for the first time ever following the release of the iPad, according to FORTUNE.

Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty issued a report to clients graphing decline of the notebook sales growth over the past year. She says, "tablet cannibalization" is at least partially responsible and cites the following reasons:

● NPD data shows that after six months of decelerating growth, U.S. retail notebook unit growth fell 4% year over year in August, marking the first time those numbers had actually gone negative.
● First week of September shows that units fell 4% year over year again.
● BestBuy CEO Brian Dunn's remarked that "internal estimates showed that the iPad had cannibalized sales from laptop PCs by as much as 50 percent."

Take a look at the chart below to see the decline.

LG Replaces CEO After Record Mobile Phone Losses

No comments:

LG announced that it has replaced its CEO after a record loss in its mobile handset business, according to Bloomberg.

Koo Bon Joon, LG Group Chairman Koo Bon Moo's younger brother, will take over from Nam Yong effective Oct. 1, South Korea's fourth-largest family-run industrial group said today. Nam, 62, resigned to take responsibility for the "current difficult situation," LG Group said.

LG Electronics shares climbed on speculation Koo, 58, will turn around a company that failed to capitalize on a surge in demand for smartphones. LG's stock rose 4.7 percent, the largest gain since March 25th.

"Investors seem to view this appointment as the company's will to pull itself together to come up with a better business strategy for mobile phones," said Im Jeong Jae, a fund manager in Seoul at Shinhan BNP Paribas Asset Management Co., which oversees $27 billion. "Nam's resignation was inevitable given that LG has lagged behind in spotting the popularity of smartphones, relegating it to a second-tier name."

This announcement follows the recent replacement of Nokia's CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo with Stephen Elop.
