Video of Kensington Bluetooth Keyboard Case for the iPad

No comments:

Take a look at this video of the Kensington Bluetooth keyboard case for iPad. The case is scheduled to be released in October for $99.

The keys have a soft, rubbery texture, which takes a bit of getting used to, but I was definitely able to type much faster on the keyboard than I can on the iPad’s on-screen keyboard. What’s more, the case lets you adjust the angle of the iPad to some degree, much as you would a laptop display.

The keyboard also features hotkey buttons for launching the Home Screen, searching, or controlling media playback. You can check them out in action in a short video after the break.

iProd 2,1 is Actually the New AppleTV

No comments:

What was previously thought to be a reference to the next iPad has now been found to actually refer to the new AppleTV.

A beta of iOS 4.1 included three new "Configuration Descriptors" within its USB configuration files. One of which referred to a product as "iProd 2,1." It was believed that this was the next iPad since the same "iProd" term was used for the iPad prior to its announcement.

TUAW now reports that it was actually the new Apple TV.

iPhone developer who was looking through the USB device configuration list in the new iOS 4.2 beta. Our source found the fascinating configuration descriptor shown above. Noted as iProd in the device configuration, this slip shows that this instance of iProd is the new Apple TV, not a new, unannounced iPad.

Yahoo CEO Says Apple's iAd is 'Going to Fall Apart'

No comments:

Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz tells Reuters that Apple's iAd service is 'going to fall apart' in a recent interview.

Earlier this year Apple introduced its iAd service to create premium ads for marketers on the iPhone.

"That's going to fall apart for them," Bartz said about Apple's iAd service. "Advertisers are not going to have that type of control over them. Apple wants total control over those ads."

Advertisers are becoming increasingly frustrated at the slow start of the iAd network due to Apple's tight control of the ad-making process; however, developers are increasingly frustrated at Apple's control over the App Store, and it clearly hasn't fallen apart.

Golf Vision Green Analyzer Released

No comments:

You've seen this concept used in video games, but now you can experience the power of "golf vision" on the real course. The Golf Vision Green Analyzer is a revolutionary new product that will take strokes off your game and amaze your friends.

Golf Vision is the only product on the market that will provide you with a highly accurate, real time preview of your putt. The app analyzes slope and inclination data at specific points on the green to calculate the trajectory of the ball and where to aim. Golf Vision has a slope accuracy of 0.1 degrees.

The Golf Vision Green Analyzer is an invaluable training aid and stroke saver.

The engineers scientifically designed the Golf Vision application to insure it's accuracy.

The Science:
The amount and angle of roll can be calculated from the ball's velocity, the angle of slope, and the friction of the putting surface. The force exerted on the ball by the angle of the plane will exert on the ball varies greatly. It turns out that the correct angle of offset or "aim" remains the same regardless of distance from the hole. For example, if the resulting angle of offset is 10 degrees at a distance of 5 ft, it will also be 10 degrees at a distance of 50ft.

Methodology:
In a controlled environment, we carefully observed the roll of the ball on greens of different speeds. Specifically, data was recorded on greens with a stimpmeter rating between 7.5 and 11.5. From the data, we observed a relationship for ball trajectory and reversed engineered a formula which accounts for the forces on the ball resulting from friction and the angle of slope of the green. From this data, we are able to predict the roll of the ball for a putt with "perfect distance."

Perfect distance is assumed to be the velocity that results in the ball coming to rest 2 ft past the hole. The application will draw two arcs, one showing the roll of the ball if it were hit directly toward the hole and another arc displaying the angle of offset to aim. The application correctly accounts for differences in ball trajectory resulting from the speed of the green, break near the hole, and uphill and downhill slopes.

How does it work?
1) Set the speed of the green (very slow, slow, normal, fast, very fast)

2) Record Slope Data - Place the device on the ground in front of the ball and tap the screen. This will record specific data on the slope of the green (angle of slope and angle of inclination). Repeat this process at the hole and at any spot in between that you find necessary.

3) Move behind your putt, get both the ball and hole in view and take a picture with the device.

4) Press the "analyze" button and the app will compute the path of the ball and the correct angle of offset to aim.

Pricing and Availability:
Golf Vision Green Analyzer 1.0 is $2.99 (USD) and available exclusively through the App Store in the Sports category.

Apple to Increase iPad Shipments By One Million/Month?

No comments:

Apple is reportedly increasing its iPad production by an extra one million units per month, according to a DigiTimes report.

Cando, a subsidiary of AU Optronics (AUO), is scheduled to start shipping 9.7-inch touch sensors for Apple's iPad from its newly reformed 4.5G production line in September-October 2010. Overall output of the newly reformed 4.5G plant will be mainly for iPad touch sensors with a monthly capacity of almost one million units.

Monthly capacity of the 4.5G line is 70,000 glass substrates, and each substrate can cut 16 units of 9.7-inch iPad touch sensors, which gives about one million units per month.

This corroborates a previous report from Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty who said Apple is currently building 2 million iPads/month and wants to increase this to 3 million/month for C4Q10.

Apple Announces AirPrint Beta Alongside iOS 4.2 Beta 1

No comments:

Apple today announced that it is releasing a beta version of its AirPrint wireless printing for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch to members of Apple’s iOS developer program today, and that AirPrint will be included in the free iOS 4.2 software update in November.

AirPrint automatically finds printers on local networks and can print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software. HP’s existing and upcoming ePrint enabled printers will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices.

“AirPrint is Apple’s powerful new printing architecture that matches the simplicity of iOS—no set up, no configuration, no printer drivers and no software to download,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC.”

“We’re pleased to work with Apple to bring Apple’s AirPrint to our fall lineup of ePrint printers in time for the holiday shopping season,” said Vyomesh Joshi, HP executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group. “Making it easy for our customers to print anytime, anywhere, is a key priority for HP. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch customers are going to love how easy it is to print using our new range of ePrint printers, creating high-quality printed pages in an instant.”

AirPrint is designed to support a wide range of printers from entry level inkjet printers to office laser printers. Additionally, iOS 4.2 devices can print to printers shared through a Mac or a PC. iOS 4.2 compatible HP printers this fall include the HP Photosmart, Officejet, Officejet Pro and LaserJet Pro series ePrint enabled printers.

Apple released the iOS 4.2 Beta 1 to developers earlier today.

Lock & Load Express for Final Cut Express

No comments:

CoreMelt has announced the release of Lock & Load Express, a powerful addition to its line of intuitive video effects software tools.

Lock & Load Express is based on CoreMelt's popular image stabilization and rolling shutter reduction software application - Lock & Load X - considered one of the fastest video stabilizers available on the Mac platform, offering advanced tracking features and CMOS rolling shutter reduction for compositors and editors working in Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Motion. Lock & Load Express harnesses much of the key functionality found in Lock & Load X, including rolling shutter reduction, but in a simplified version that caters primarily to videographers and prosumers using DSLR cameras and working on Apple's entry level Final Cut Express editing software.

Bolton notes that while Lock & Load X has gained considerable praise as a tool to improve video quality for users on higher end editing software applications, there are videographers utilizing DSLR and CMOS sensor based cameras running on Final Cut Express, which does not have a built-in image stabilizer (Lock & Load Express is currently the only stabilizer designed for Final Cut Express), who do not need access to every control in processing their footage, but need a reliable tool to stabilize footage featuring rolling shutter artifacts at a lower price point.

"CoreMelt is excited to introduce Lock & Load Express, a trimmed down version of our blazingly fast Lock & Load X tracking stabilizer software developed specifically to tackle real world production problems that videographers encounter when shooting on DSLR cameras inside Final Cut Pro Express; itself a powerful application," says Bolton. "With today's addition to our software plug-in lineup, editors and compositors at every professional level will have increased freedom to work on their editing platform of choice to tackle stabilization and rolling shutter issues for virtually any workflow and unleash their personal creativity."

Bolton adds, "Lock & Load Express addresses the everyday challenges facing videographers - especially event videographers that shoot on DSLR cameras - to give hand held footage a professionally shot Steady Cam quality instantly without the need to set tracking points. Using the rolling shutter reduction functionality in our Lock & Load Express software helps lessen image distortions and lets digital content creators get on with business of creating and meeting tight deadlines."

Key Highlights of Lock & Load Express:

Lock & Load Express enables customers to achieve the highest-quality image stabilization and rolling shutter reduction features working on Final Cut Express including:
* Speed - Lock & Load Express tracks up to 12 times faster than Final Cut Pro's built in stabilizer.
* Background Tracking - Allows users to work on the rest of a project while tracking for improved productivity and greater precision.
* Streamlined workflow - Features like in/out point analysis, and rotation and zoom smoothing help simplify workflow and keep projects on deadline.
* Intuitive - Lock & Load Express is based on the powerful Lock & Load X software architecture known for its ease-of-use and simplified interface for better quality results. Running inside Final Cut Express the software offers editors and compositors a proven solution for limiting rolling shutter artifacts and image distortion even on shots with complex rotation or poorly defined background.

Briefing Opportunities:
CoreMelt will host a live Webinar on Thursday, September 16th open to the press to provide an overview of the features and power behind CoreMelt's Lock & Load products. The Webinar will take place at 10am (PST)/1pm (EST)/7:00 p.m. (Europe Time). Please contact Vicky Gray-Clark, Ambient PR, 408-243-8880 or Ray Ecke, Right Word Media, 973-726-3797 with interest. One-on-one briefings are also available upon request.

CoreMelt's new Lock & Load Express plug-in has been expressly designed for and is the only one available to reduce rolling shutter for videographers using DSLR cameras and editing on Final Cut Express. Founder, director and lead product designer Roger Bolton is a visual effects veteran whose credits include "Lord of the Rings," "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and whose vision is to develop the fastest and most intuitive visual effects plug-ins possible.

Pricing and Availability:
Lock & Load Express is available now for $79.00 (USD) from CoreMelt and its authorized dealers. CoreMelt products are available worldwide through the internet and resellers in the US, UK, Taiwan and Japan.

Lock & Load Express harnesses much of the key functionality found in Lock & Load X, including rolling shutter reduction, but in a simplified version that caters primarily to videographers and prosumers
