Leaked Case Images Reveal New Square Touchscreen iPod Nano Design?

No comments:

Leaked case images for the new iPod nano may confirm rumors that it will be smaller square touchscreen design device.

iLounge has obtained photos from Chinese case vendor X-Doria claims to be for the fourth-generation iPod touch and the sixth-generation iPod nano.

The iPod touch case shows an opening in the back for a camera and flash. It also shows a curved shell design which may indicate that Apple won't be transitioning the iPhone 4 design to the iPod touch.

The two supposed iPod nano 6G cases, on the other hand, appear to be made for a squarish device based on the 1.7-inch Apple-branded touchscreen seen in photos earlier this year, without any room for a front-mounted Home button. The nano 6G case features an open strip on the rear—perhaps for a camera or built-in clip—as well as what appear to be volume buttons and a larger button on the top side while a Dock Connector and headphone port are along the bottom.

iLounge notese that there is some text accompanying the image which notes that it is unclear what smaller form factor for the iPad nano means for the future of the iPod shuffle.

iTunes Update Will Focus on Social Sharing Rather Streaming?

No comments:

Music executives say they do expect a big overhaul of the iTunes store next Wednesday but they say it will be social, not streaming, according to a MediaMemo report.

Industry executives say Apple hasn't approached the labels for new license deals that would allow a streaming "locker" service. Rather, they are expecting Apple to unveil a lightweight, Web-based version of the iTunes that will include social features to share musical tastes with friends.

Right now, you can get to the iTunes store only by using a downloaded program on your Mac or iPhone/iPod/iPad. But a Web-based version would allow buyers to get there without having to quit other applications. And if Apple makes it easier for services like Twitter and Facebook to link into the store and share recommendations, playlists and the like, then you can imagine some pretty interesting possibilities.

“There’s a reason Steve Jobs calls it an iPod–he thinks you listen to music by yourself, on your headphones,” says a label executive. “But lots of people like to share music, and if this lets you do that, that’s exciting.”

It's also thought that Apple could offer a service to keep your iTunes purchases in sync between devices.

New iPod Nano May Lose the Clickwheel

No comments:

Kaufman analyst Shaw Wu says his sources point to a "significant redesign" of the iPod nano. The new design may be smaller and eliminate the clickwheel.

"We [Kaufman] frankly are not sure if this model will see the light of day," Wu comments. "But this would be a big departure from the design it has had since 2005 when it replaced the iPod mini. From our take, a radical refresh may make sense to jumpstart what was once its top-selling iPod."

Other notable predictions include the coexistence of the current iPod touch with the new iPod touch, likely selling at $199 and that Apple will NOT use the event to reveal an updated Apple TV.

"Because of the timing and the image on the invite, we would be surprised if a new Apple TV is announced at this event," he says, adding though that Apple is "known to surprise."

Kaufman still expects the device to launch during the holiday season or in the first half of 2011.

Intuit and Mophie Offer Complete Credit Card Solution for iPhone

No comments:

Intuit and mophie today announced the availability of a Complete Credit Card Solution, an all-in-one product that enables small businesses to easily process credit card payments via the Apple iPhone. It integrates Intuit's GoPayment credit card processing app and quick-to-activate merchant account with the mophie marketplace credit card reader. This package is now available in Apple Retail Stores and soon on Apple.com

As part of this solution, Intuit GoPayment offers a quick and easy application process that is designed to let merchants start processing credit cards on their iPhones in as few as 15 minutes. As an option, GoPayment is also compatible with QuickBooks Mac to help save time in keeping business financial files up to date.

Enhanced GoPayment Features for the iPhone GoPayment has been on the market for more than a year and has already processed $35 million in transactions for small businesses. In addition to faster merchant account activation and integration with QuickBooks Mac, this latest version offers easier navigation with the ability for customers to sign their bill via the iPhone touch screen. It's also possible to now add inventory items to receipts, which can instantly be e-mailed or sent by text to a customer for their records. To make GoPayment affordable for the smallest of small businesses, it also offers new simplified pricing with competitive discount rates and transaction fees.

How it Works
The speedy new Intuit Merchant Account application process is designed to let small business owners easily and quickly apply and be approved to start processing credit cards. A user can apply from the GoPayment App, online or by calling Intuit right from their iPhone.

By adding the sleek, clip-on mophie marketplace card reader, merchants can save time by securely swiping credit cards instead of entering numbers by hand. After swiping the card, data is immediately encrypted using Intuit's industry-standard security methods. Customers authorize the payment by signing their name on the iPhone touch screen. The merchant can then send them an e-mail or text receipt. GoPayment processes the credit card within seconds and funds are deposited into the businesses' bank account. An additional option lets businesses integrate GoPayment with QuickBooks Mac to easily and quickly match the right customer and invoice in QuickBooks.

Pricing and Availability
The Complete Credit Card Solution is available for the iPhone 3G and 3GS for $179.95 at Apple Retail Stores and soon on Apple.com. It works exclusively with the Intuit GoPayment App, which is available for free from the App Store.

GoPayment, including the Intuit merchant account, offers competitive pricing at $12.95 a month, a 1.7 to 3.7 percent discount rate and $0.30 to $0.34 per transaction fee. There are no long-term contracts, cancellation, gateway or set-up fees, and one account can enable up to 50 users.

There Will Not Be a Jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2

No comments:

Jailbreakme v2.0 was a great success, and it’s provided a nice leveling point for all jailbreakers and unlockers on all devices at firmware versions less than 4.0.2/3.2.2. We hope that everybody ever interested in jailbreaks or unlocks was able to join in on the jailbreakme bonanza. Those of you who had Cydia capture your SHSH blobs, or those of you who captured them locally, will always be able to benefit from the jailbreakme.com v2.0 release. Congratulations!

Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole. They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak. So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?

No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.

If the cat & mouse game escalates too quickly, especially during beta FW periods, nobody but Apple benefits. For this reason, there won’t be a 4.0.2/3.2.2 jailbreak specifically during the period where 4.0.2/3.2.2 is the latest public release. At best, some future 4.1x FW jailbreak *may* be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 (but don’t count on that).
---

For those of you with the iPhone3G or iPod Touch 2G(not MC version) please not that you can still use redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.0.2. See the iClarified Jailbreak Wizard for more info.

Boxee Player Adds a Movie Library

No comments:

Boxee Player has added a new Movie Library which includes thousands of films from four great partners: EZTakes, Indie Movies Online, MUBI and Openfilm

Most of these movies are available for free (supported by ads). You can explore each service’s catalogue using the ‘filter by provider’ option on the Movie Library sidebar.

The Movie Library makes it easy to find, watch, or queue movies you like. Moving forward, it will include movies from additional online movie services and directly from studios, so while the movie selection will grow, the experience and ease of discovery will remain the same.

The new version of Boxee Beta also includes over 100 bug fixes.

Google Adds Calling and Google Voice Integration to Gmail [Video]

No comments:

Google has added calling and Google Voice integration to Gmail and is offering free calls to the U.S. and Canada for 2010.

--
Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. We worked hard to make these rates really cheap (see comparison table) with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan—and many more countries—for as little as $0.02 per minute.

Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name.

If you have a Google Voice phone number, calls made from Gmail will display this number as the outbound caller ID. And if you decide to, you can receive calls made to this number right inside Gmail (see instructions).

We’re rolling out this feature to U.S. based Gmail users over the next few days, so you’ll be ready to get started once “Call Phones” shows up in your chat list (you will need to install the voice and video plug-in if you haven’t already). If you’re not a U.S. based user—or if you’re using Google Apps for your school or business—then you won’t see it quite yet. We’re working on making this available more broadly—so stay tuned!

Take a look at the video below for a demonstration...

Video will be up later today
