Gertrudis Graphics Releases GMX-PhotoPainter

No comments:

Gertrudis Graphics has announced the release of its new GMX-PhotoPainter for Mac OS X. GMX-PhotoPainter is a standalone software solution that transforms an image (generally a photo) into an original artwork. With GMX-PhotoPainter, artists can start with an existing picture such as from a digital camera or scanner, a 3D rendering or painting from another program or imaging application.

GMX-PhotoPainter first performs a topological analysis of the image's content and builds a matrix of flow direction vectors. Users can then paint a few quick strokes across the desired features of their image. GMX-PhotoPainter uses this information to generate something that looks more like hand-drawn masterpieces.

"GMX-PhotoPainter is one of the most intuitive Digital Art Tool at your fingertips. You can customize your styles as never seen before," said Martin Duerr, the owner of CYBERSIGN.DE a Digital Art firm from Germany. "It's a 'must have' for any serious graphic artist or digital painter. It's an indispensable tool for my daily work."

Realistic imitations of traditional media:
While one of the main goals of GMX-PhotoPainter is enabling users to create their own styles, there are a number of standard, "ready to use" styles which successfully imitate traditional media: Watercolor, Oil painting, Crayon, and Pen & Ink. Each of these comes in different sizes, and levels of details.

Custom Styles:
GMX-PhotoPainter for Mac OS X lets the user create its own style from the ground up, with a deep level of customization, including the shape of the brush, texture, color sampling technique, width, length, and many more features. There are in fact more than 40 different parameters, organized from the most common parameters like width, length, transparency, to more sophisticated parameters like color variation, pen & ink behavior and others.

Main Features:
* Realistic imitations of the traditional media: Watercolor, Oil, Crayon, and others
* Advanced Style Management: It lets creating variations of the existing styles or create new styles from scratch
* Automatic drawing: There is one tool called "Autosketch" which lets the designer choose the option of giving the direction of the strokes in an automatic way. This is done by its exclusive flow analysis algorithm
* Wacom Tablet support: GMX-PhotoPainter for Mac can take advantage of the "Pressure Sensitiveness" feature of any wacom tablet or complatible device

High Performance Core and Native Mac OS X Look-and-Feel:
The GMX-PhotoPainter core has been completely rewritten from scratch in highly optimized C++, this produces a natural response to the painting operations in real time. Also the User Interface was written using the native Mac OS X Framework: Cocoa / Objective C. Thus GMX-PhotoPainter for Mac is a native Mac OS X application that closely follows Apple Human Interface Guidelines. Thus obtaining the natural look of the Mac applications.

MYStuff Adds Dropbox and iDisk Support

No comments:

Minder Softworks has updated MYStuff to version 1.4, adding support for moving the database files to Dropbox, iDisk, file server, USB flash drive, or any other location. This release also adds an "All Records" category, and various interface enhancements including better utilization on smaller screen sizes. MYStuff was designed to be a "stuff manager", combining the best features of home inventory programs, warranty trackers, and PDF managers.

MYStuff makes it easy to file and find information about things you own. You simply make a new record, and enter important information about the item. Then you can add an unlimited number of files to the record: a scan of the receipt, photos of the item, a PDF of the manual, and anything else you would like to add. To make this process easier, MYStuff's MYInbox feature allows users to quickly add files to MYStuff from other applications such as scanners.

MYStuff 1.4's biggest new feature is the ability to move its database to other locations, such as Dropbox or iDisk accounts, a file server, or a USB flash drive. By far the most popular feature request since MYStuff 1.0 was released last year, this feature allows users to keep their data secure on off-site servers and synchronize the data between multiple Macs.

This update also adds an "All Records" category that provides a quick view of everything in the MYStuff database. It also adds various interface tweaks and enhancements, including better display on smaller screens such as those on MacBooks.

In addition to these new features, MYStuff allows you to easily back up your data, print lists for insurance claims, and view your records as lists or as images. MYStuff also imports CSV data from other popular applications.

MYStuff will immediately draw comparisons to popular PDF- and note-managing applications, home-inventory applications, receipt-tracking applications, and warranty-tracking applications. MYStuff is none of these things, and yet it is all of these things. PDF managers concentrate on allowing users to file and find documents, but provide no way of entering information about individual items. Home inventory programs allow tracking information about individual items, but provide little or no way to track the documents about the item. MYStuff has all the best features of each of these applications, and puts them in a simple, easy-to-use interface.

Every year, people throw away countless products that are still covered by a warranty. Most often, they are unaware that the product is still under warranty because they cannot find the receipt and warranty information from the time of purchase, which may have been a year ago or maybe ten years ago. As a result, they replace an item that could have been repaired for free, thus costing them money. Keeping important paperwork organized is a tremendous amount of work, which explains why so few people do it. MYStuff helps users file and find their information quickly and easily, saving them both time and money.

Apple Retail Staff Taught to 'Look Into the Heart, Not the Pocket Book'

No comments:

Apple senior vice-president of retail, Ron Johnson talks to Retail Week about the company’s charge into retail since joining the business in 2000. Here are some choice quotes...

"10 years ago, we decided that, as a company that wanted to win in innovation, we wanted customers to experience the product at first hand. Most people have never seen the iPad. They’ve heard about it, but the chance to touch it is a pretty neat thing.

Our primary objective is to create a place that people will love," says Johnson. Speaking about the Covent Garden store he says, "We’ve not only created a store, we’ve created a place for people to be."

"Regent Street taught me the most. It was a big bet to put in a big store like that, but it worked. Today, Regent Street is our highest traffic store in the world."

Johnson says staff are taught "to look in the heart, not the pocket book" when dealing with customers. Rather then sell they are there "to help you buy".

iPad App Required by Stanford School of Medicine

No comments:

Aji has announced that their popular iPad app iAnnotate PDF will be part of the required course materials for first-year medical school students at Stanford. Apple recently announced that educational institutions will be able to buy apps in bulk through iTunes, and as part of a trial program to integrate the iPad into academics, Stanford School of Medicine will now be providing all of their first-year students with iPads. Recently updated to include full Dropbox and VGA support, iAnnotate is optimized to be the ideal tool to improve the student learning experience.

"We've been working with Stanford to improve live note-taking and automatic distribution of lecture materials to their students. Many medical professionals have found iAnnotate especially useful in their work, so Stanford's iPad program is a perfect fit for the app," says Jim Brink, Founder of Aji. In the near future, the company will offer the ability to integrate iAnnotate technology directly into businesses and schools with enterprise support. This will facilitate easy group device configuration, shared documents, and remote push synchronization.

iAnnotate is a complete annotation solution that gives students and other professionals the ability to take notes, highlight and underline in documents and diagrams with the drag of a finger. iAnnotate eliminates the need for voluminous printed texts and easily consolidates and organizes notes and documents. Teachers can quickly grade assignments, and share annotated diagrams, charts or syllabi. Students can easily email and share notes on PDFs to their study groups.

New features for iAnnotate 1.2 include Dropbox and VGA support as well as optimizations to finger/pen movements, improved responsiveness, screen-based navigation and better security. Combined with users ability to transfer PDFs via email, iTunes sync or even clicking any PDF web link, iAnnotate has never been more powerful.

"It's really exciting to be able to bring this streamlined approach to learning into the classroom through iPad. It's just an incredibly simple way to go green and paperless while taking notes, studying and grading with iAnnotate," says Jim Brink, Founder of Aji. "Anyone who works with PDFs will love iAnnotate, and in 1.2 we've added a ton of functionality."

* Dropbox Support: Access and download files from your Dropbox account, and upload back annotated versions.

* VGA Support: Use the iPad VGA dock connector to have your document and annotations mirrored to an external projector or monitor.

* Improved Responsiveness: For pen/drawing annotations, including smoothing and handling dots to improve stylus support.

* Security: New Applicaation Lock option for password-protecting iAnnotate.

* A complete annotation system: Text Notes, Highlight, Underline, Free-Form Drawing, Bookmarks, and more. An intuitive interface allows for viewing and editing annotations without leaving the document reading view.

* Full-featured PDF reader: New Screen-Based Navigation and Toolbar Buttons plus Continuous-scrolling page display with all standard scroll/zoom gestures, and full screen reading mode wit tabbed reading.

* Easy transfer of PDFs: Send and receive PDFs via email, through iTunes sync, and by browsing to any PDF link.

* Fully Customizable Toolbars: Reposition and resize toolbars, and drag-and-drop to configure tools included on each.

* Comprehensive document and full-library search: Search your entire PDF library to instantly find all documents with any keyword. Tabs sort new, unread, and annotated documents.

* APS (Aji PDF Service): Free companion application on the web that helps store and managing PDF's. Recommended for large libraries of documents.
