Even Steve Jobs Can't Get a Table at Flour + Water

No comments:

Photos of Steve Jobs leaving Flour + Water with his family after being unable to get a table have been posted online by TechCrunch.

The photos were originally from Foodspotting founder Alexa Andrzejewski who happened to be waiting in line with Jobs for a table.

According to Sfoodie, "Jobs lined up with other table hopefuls before the restaurant opened Saturday. Turns out the people immediately in front of Jobs got the last seats. So what did the man in black do? He left."

Andrejweski offered the following story to TechCrunch.

You don’t know how much I wish I’d posted “Steve Jobs @ Flour + Water” on Foodspotting now that it’s gotten Digged and over 25,000 views, but I was just caught up in the moment because I was so happy for my friend Kim, the guy in the picture, and we don’t *normally* encourage celebrity spotting.

Kim (@taro) is an awesome Swedish programmer living in Japan. He took a month off from work here at Smart.fm to do a cross-country road trip, with the idea of hitting Apple land as the Mecca of the voyage. He’d just spent the previous day in Cupertino, just to see “The Apple Temple.”

Kim is the the biggest Steve Jobs/Apple fanboy in the universe [Editor's note. Insert MG joke here], and his trip ended with him seeing Steve Jobs and getting his picture with him plastered all over the place.

Kim’s second love to Apple is food, so I’d been planning to take him to Flour + Water for months. I had no idea that Steve Jobs would be waiting in line right behind us! What are the chances that, as our other flabbergasted friend Simon put it, “the great god in his infinite kindness and wisdom would grace @kimtaro with his presence at Flour + Water.”

When Steve Jobs politely declined our request for a photo with Kim, we walked away sullenly, but moments later my husband turned around to snap this “photobomb.” It was the happiest day of Kim’s life! Here are a few more photos to dispel the Photoshop charges. Plus this guy did a thorough analysis here.

By the way — he was there with his family of course. And yes, we were just bystanders.

Photo Illustration Shows New iPod Touch 4?

No comments:

HardMac has posted photo illustrations of the new iPod touch from a case manufacturer. The illustrations were obtained via a 'very reliable' source who correctly predicted the iPod mini camera last year.

Even if it is hard to have a perfect view through the case, it looks like the back is rounded, unlike the one of the new iPhone, and of course, there is a camera and a flash.

Evidence of New High Resolution iPad Display?

No comments:

Matt Martindale has released the latest update for iPhone users. Locationizer 1.1 saves users time, money, and fuel by reminding them about important errands based on their current location. Adding a location is as simple as tapping the screen and stretching a circle around the "Reminder Zone". The next time the user enters that Reminder Zone, Locationizer 1.1 delivers a reminder, via push notification, that they have a nearby errand to complete.

Locationizer 1.1 features include
* Uses push notifications to give location based reminders
* Simple user Interface
* Runs in the background while conserving battery life
* Automatic continuous updates when iPhone is plugged into charger
* "Master" on/off switch
* Ability to turn each reminder on or off
* Ability to turn continuous updates on or off
* Enter distances in miles or kilometers
* See all reminders on a convenient list

To enter a new location, users simply scroll through their contacts, search for an address, or mark the location on the map. The map interface is simple and intuitive. Using familiar, gesture based controls, users just pan the map, zoom in on their desired location, and tap the screen to mark their reminder zone. They can also adjust the reminder radius, which may be set in miles or kilometers.

All reminders can be viewed in one location on an easy to read checklist. From the list screen, reminders can also be edited, deleted, or individually turned on or off. Turning a reminder on or off is as easy as tapping its checkbox. Locationizer 1.1 was designed to make using it as easy, quick, and intuitive as possible.

No comments:

Clearwire has announced the CLEAR iSpot, a personal hotspot with dedicated support for Apple's devices, including the iPad, iPod touch and iPhone.

"With the iSpot, Apple customers don't have to sort through confusing service plans with overage fees, nor do they have to worry about how much data they're using," said Thomas Enraght-Moony, senior vice president of marketing at Clearwire. "Instead, with CLEAR, customers can run all of their Apple mobile devices at true broadband speeds for a single, simple monthly fee."

The iSpot is CLEAR's first 4G personal mobile hotspot made exclusively for Apple mobile products, including iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices. iSpot users can share 4G speed with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled Apple mobile devices simultaneously. iPhone 4 Owners Report Less Dropped Calls Than 3GS Owners

No comments:

A July ChangeWave survey has taken an in-depth look at the reactions and opinions of 213 Apple iPhone 4 owners, according to InvestorPlace.

The survey found that 72% of iPhone 4 owners are very satisfied and 21% are somewhat satisfied with their device. This is actually lower then the iPhone 3GS initial ratings of 82% and 17% satisfaction. Its thought that the lower numbers for the iPhone 4 might be due to the much publicized antennagate controversy.

iPhone 4 owners said Screen Resolution (49%) was their favorite phone feature, followed by the 5 Megapixel Camera with LED Flash (31%) and the Touch Screen Interface (30%).

The most disliked feature of the iPhone 4 was the the Requirement to Use AT&’s Network(27%) and the Coverage/ Speed/ Quality of AT&T’s 3G Network(24%). Antenna problems also tied AT&T quality issues for the second most disliked feature.

The survey found that since September 2008, Verizon’s call drop rating has improved slightly while AT&T’s has continued to worsen.

Notably, iPhone 4 owners reported a better dropped call rating (5.2%) than their 3GS counterparts (6.3%).

Leaked Details on Upcoming iPod, iPhone, iPad Lineups?

No comments:

iLounge has published some information on the upcoming iPod, iPhone, and iPad lineups from a 'highly reliable source'.

If you remember our exclusive first details on the iPad, iPod nano 4G and 5G, you’ll know that our sources’ accuracy level is very high but not perfect, which is about as good as can be expected given the nature of Apple-related leaks. (Except for ones posted by the always impressive John Gruber, who appears to be getting pre-release information directly from Apple.)

iPods
iLounge has heard that there are three new iPods ready to launch this month or next. A new nano, a new touch, and possibly a new 1.7" touchscreen shuffle. Other chatter involves a three-inch touchscreen for the iPod touch, shaving half an inch off the diagonal.

iPad
A seven inch iPad will reportedly be announced late this year or early 2011.

iPhone
Apple is reportedly pushing up the release date of the fifth-generation iPhone to early 2011 (as soon as January) due to antenna issues with the iPhone 4. It’s unclear if the iPhone components will be repackaged into a difference shell. iLounge finds this one hard to believe.

iPhone 4 Bumpers
Apple is currently working on a less expensive all-silicone version of the Bumper to give away after September. iLounge's source says Apple was considering giving away free Bumpers before taking the chance to launch with the bare device.

Teach Kids the Alphabet and Numbers with Fun

No comments:

Dot Next has announced the release and immediate availability of Magnetic Alphabet 1.0, the iPad edition of the classic magnetic board game. The development of the application comes from our experience with children: we all have children or grandchildren between 3 and 10 and we noticed that their best games are the simple and immediate ones.

Sophisticated games leave little to their imagination, while the old magnetic board with a handful of colored letters allows them to free their imagination. Transforming this experience into a game for iPad was natural: magnetic alphabet contains 95 different pieces in 6 colors, for a total of 570 magnets to be placed freely on the board: a real stimulus for imagination and creativity of our children, without the stress of having to learn features and rules typical of more complex games.

The magnetic alphabet is suitable for children of all ages, both those who already write and those who have yet to learn the alphabet. Knowing the alphabet and numbers in preschool age helps children deal with school more certainty: this game is the ideal tool to start to become familiar with letters and numbers in the lightest and most enjoyable way.

For children who have already started the school it is a great way to combine playing and learning, thus making it more pleasant. It is a good opportunity to play with our children teaching them something: maybe this is the most important thing! It is also a great diversion for those times when kids get bored as long trips, restaurant dinners, parties with friends: unavoidable situations that are easily solved with the magnetic alphabet.

Key features:
* 95 different magnets in 6 colors, for a total of 570 pieces
* Every single magnet can be used more than once
* Save the composition as image locally
* Show your kids' creation to your friends on Facebook
* Quick video tutorial
* No need to gather dozen of pieces all araound the room once the game ends!

Pricing and Availability:
Magnetic Alphabet 1.0 is 2.99 USD or equivalent amount in other currencies (launch price till august 15) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Game category, Kids subcategory. Support for the game is available online.

Combine Two Faces Into One

No comments:

Soupface has announced the release and availability of their latest product offering, Soupface 1.0 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The application is a source of absolute amusement for the entire family. Soupface, as the name says, is a face morphing application created for entertainment purposes only that allows user to combine two faces into one!

Ever wonder what a cross between you and your favorite celebrity would look like? Maybe you and your old flame? Wonder no more now! With Soupface, you can find out in an instant. See what your love child might look like with your spouse or secret crush, or you can simply morph celebrity couples together to see how much the image resembles their real life offspring.

The objective of Soupface is to instantly morph pictures of yourself with friends, family members, celebrities, maybe even your pets and daze your friends by emailing them the morphed image.

Soupface developers wanted their application to stand out of the queue of other common Morphing Applications. Soupface doesn't use face detection like other morphing applications, nor do they send you randomly "morphed" images that look like they came from some preloaded database of pictures. Another great feature about Soupface is that once you download it, you don't need an Internet connection!

Soupface comes with following features:
* Built in application camera
* Preloaded database of celebrities' images
* Quick access to photo gallery
* It works offline too
* Email souped pictures with few clicks
* Post to Facebook
* Fun for all ages

How to Soup:
Load two forward facing (no teeth showing) images of your friends, family, favorite celebrities or maybe pets into the Soupface application. You can use images from your library or take pictures within the application camera. Once the image is loaded, you will have to crop the image into proper position before morphing. The quality of the morphed images is determined by two factors: The quality of the parent images used and the precision of photo cropping, both the factors will take practice initially, but its part of the fun and you will be a Soupface pro in no time!

Once both images are cropped into position, all you need to do is just hit the "Make Soup" button and let the Soupface application do the rest. In order to Make Soup you don't need an Internet connection! All of the morphing happens within the application so it's really fast! Soupface does not send your images to a web server to be morphed and sent back to the app. You will be able to send your morphed pictures to friends by email from within the application or post it to yours or your friends' facebook page. You can really feel immersed in it. Once you get used to it, you won't want to return to other morphing applications again. Try it! Soup it and you will get into it!

Pricing and Availability:
Soupface 1.0 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store under Entertainment and Photography category.

Map and Record Plantings Using 7 Layers

No comments:

Oakville Stamping & Bending has released Gardener's Buddy 1.0, their plant mapping and recording app for iPad. Starting with a user created sketch or map which is uploaded into the iPad, the app allows the gardener to create graphical overlays indicating plant types, locations and complete annotated details. The app generates and saves 25 maps, and the gardener uses one per month to record new plantings. There are seven layers with icons denoting: trees, bushes, bulbs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables.

When first starting to use Gardener's Buddy, the user must create a sketch or map of their garden, save it as a JPEG, and then use the File Sharing function in iTunes to upload it into the app. With the base layer in place, 25 monthly maps are generated and saved, each with seven planting layers for use on top of the base. New plantings may be added as many times per month as desired, and all records can be emailed or synced with a computer database at any time. The app is always up to date, automatically creating a new map each month and deleting the oldest record. If a map sketch is not available, uploading a blank JPEG will result in a book type garden diary.

Gardener's Buddy launches in portrait mode to display a scrolling list of months, starting with the coming month and going back an additional 24. An icon view of the base layer accompanies each listing, along with month and year, and whether any garden data has been recorded. The app can accommodate multiple users by tapping a green Change User button on the top right. Tapping on any month brings up the base layer of the garden map, plus any of seven different colored icon layers indicating the kinds of plants added that month (trees, bushes, bulbs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables) and their location.

Feature Highlights:
* Gardener's Buddy - the map-based iPad iDiary for the gardening enthusiast
* Upload your own garden jpeg for base map
* Toggle function to select Planting Marker type for trees, bushes, bulbs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables
* Plant a Marker by tapping on the screen map in the desired location and filling out window that pops up with name and description
* Make a complete record of every planting
* Accommodates multiple users
* Easy export of planting using email or file syncing
* Identify, document, and maintain every plant using monthly maps

The Review button on the lower right of the map view allows the user to highlight each icon sequentially, revealing its nametag. Tapping on a Planting Marker already entered activates a pop up text window and keyboard. In addition to the Name, the text window has a Description field that allows the user to enter as much detailed information regarding the plant as desired. This annotating feature can be used to record and save relevant information that was included with the plant when purchased, plus notes, etc. In this way the gardener can easily visualize their garden as a whole, by plant type, or by date of planting. Gardener's Buddy is a convenient, portable application which enables the user to plan, plant, document, and maintain their own garden.

"Gardener's Buddy is designed to remove all the memory frustration from gardening," commented designer and garden enthusiast Chris McLeod. "Identifying and maintaining every plant in your garden is simplified using this well designed app for iPad."

Pricing and Availability:
Gardener's Buddy 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Lifestyle category. Review copies are available upon request.

Google Stops Development of Google Wave

No comments:

Google has discontinued development of Google Wave due to a lack of user adoption, according to an official blog posting earlier today.

Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects. The central parts of the code, as well as the protocols that have driven many of Wave’s innovations, like drag-and-drop and character-by-character live typing, are already available as open source, so customers and partners can continue the innovation we began. In addition, we will work on tools so that users can easily “liberate” their content from Wave.

SkinCam for iPhone Makes Photos Fun and Easy

No comments:

No Tie Software has announced the release and immediate availability of SkinCam 1.0 for iPhone devices. The built-in camera app is okay, but hardly entertaining. It's time someone did something about it, and No Tie Software has stepped up to the plate!

SkinCam is a fun way to take photos using an iPhone. Instead of a plain "preview", users are treated to an assortment of "skins" such as a Digital Camera, Coin-Op machine, 3D glasses, hands "framing the shot", peepholes, nightvision, rifle scope, telescope, binoculars, and many more! SkinCam is more than just an entertaining app. Unlike the built-in camera app, users can touch anywhere in the Preview area to take the picture, making it easier to take shots, especially self portraits.

More "Skins" are being added all the time, and users are encouraged to submit requests to No Tie Software. There are NO In-App purchases. As skins are added, they will be included at no extra charge. And don't worry. The photos taken by SkinCam are unretouched and do not have the "Skins" applied to them. SkinCam is just a fun way to take quality pictures, for kids and adults alike. SkinCam works great on the iPhone 4, and all iPhones for that matter. Naturally, a camera is required, so the iPad and iPod touch will have to wait.

Pricing and Availability:
SkinCam 1.0 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Entertainment category.

Ticker Display Information for iPhone

No comments:

Cypress Point Technologies has released Trin. Trin 1.0 is the first app to bring users real time Trading Index updates for the major American stock exchanges. Three easy to read meters are automatically updated every 5 seconds to reflect index changes, as they happen, for NASDAQ, NYSE and the Russell 2000 stocks, as well as the Dow Jones, NASDAQ Composite and Russell indices.

Trin's powerful features include:
* Automatic updates every 5 seconds
* Real time tracking of NYSE, NASADQ and Russell 2000 stocks
* Real time updates of Dow Jones, NASDAQ Composite, and Russell Indices
* 3 easy to read meters

The Trin index, also called the Arms Index, is used by short-term traders on the major U.S. stock exchanges. Until now, it only existed on ticker displays and expensive proprietary terminals. Trin for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad now gives users this same information to take with them wherever they go.

With 3 meters to track important index changes in real time, users have up to the second information for the Trading Index. One meter keeps track of NYSE, another has the latest from NASDAQ, and the third keeps up with Russell 2000 stocks. All three meters also change in the Dow Jones index, as well as the NASDAQ Composite and the Russell index, as they happen. By automatically updating every 5 to 10 seconds, Trin allows users to literally watch the changes as they occur throughout the day. Trin's 3 meters clearly show the user how volume is moving the market and in what direction; which is critical information for short-term traders.

Pricing and Availability:
Trin 1.0 is only $19.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Finance category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Kapeli has announced the release and immediate availability of Switche, a new Mac OS X app that combines CMD+Tab's simplicity with Expose's style and elegance. Users can define three pairs of keyboard shortcuts. CMD+Tab will cycle between active apps Expose-style and the other two pairs will switch between windows of the same app or between all windows.

Unlike other similar applications, Switche doesn't try to reinvent the wheel and uses Expose for all of its features, as Mac users are already familiar with it. Switche makes use of the most advanced features of Expose and combines them into something as simple as CMD Tab to use.

Switche can be used to:
* Switch between applications
* Switch between windows
* Switch between the windows of the frontmost application

Switche is able to:
* Skip applications with no open windows
* Automatically zoom windows (using Expose)
* Close windows and quit applications by pressing 'W' or 'Q'

Switche is a 2.3 MB application which has no impact on the system and can be easily uninstalled just by deleting it. The application runs quietly in the background, its butterfly-icon can be swittched off if menubar-real-estate is an issue.

Pricing and Availability:
Switche may be purchased for $7.99 (USD). The free version displays an alert every now and then and is otherwise fully unrestricted.

Walkee iGuide to Disneyland for iPhone

No comments:

MediaLAB the developers of Walkee iGuide to Disneyland iPhone app, has released their product update for iPhone and iPod touch users. The Walkee iGuide to Disneyland is the most feature rich Disney app on the market, offering dozens of functions and features to help users get around Disneyland and southern California. This latest update to the application polishes the already impressive map and text alert returns.

Walkee iGuide to Disneyland, with its dozens of exciting features, has been designed specifically to guide users through the more than five hundred acres of Disneyland. If it did only that, it would be handy but this app does so much more. Users can pinpoint attractions, shops and restaurants, map out their route and activities ahead of time, find points of interest in other areas of southern California and check the weather. That is only the tip of the iceberg, too.

The app is able to contain so much comprehensive information because MediaLAB president, Jim Kirkwood, knows the theme park and California like the back of his hand. "I've been covering Disneyland in SoCal Magazine for twenty years, so I'm very familiar with the park and also with this part of the state. I thought it would be nice to make it easier for people to find their way around and enjoy their vacation a little more," says Kirkwood.

This latest update to the application includes new details added to the map, along with improved text alert returns and some general updating to menu items.

These are just a few of the dozens of features available to users in Walkee(R) iGuide to Disneyland:
* Helps maximize time at Disneyland
* Automatically updated line wait times
* Beautiful maps for Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney
* Historical facts about attractions
* Shopping and dining icons to you plan the day
* Camera for taking fun pictures
* Built-in notepad
* Create an itinerary
* Clock for checking parade and show times
* Dining menus and direct phone for calling any Downtown Disney restaurant or shop
* Add a photo to an eCard and email or post to Facebook or Twitter account
* GPS guides users through the park
* "Return to a Location" text reminders
* SoCal Mobile feature offers tons of information about southern California and all things Disney
* Exclusively Walkee gives expanded Disney info and customization features

"We believe that we have a lot to offer our customers with this app but we aren't planning to rest on our laurels. We'll continue improving it in any way that we can," Kirkwood says. Because of the richness and value this app has to offer, Walkee iGuide to Disneyland has been featured on CBS, KCAL, KTLA, TUAW, OC Register and AppCraver.

Pricing and Availability
Walkee iGuide to Disneyland 1.4.1 is only $3.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Travel category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Germany Issues Security Warning for Apple Devices

No comments:

A German government agency has issued an official security warning for Apple mobile devices, according to the Associated Press.

The Federal Office for Information Security said on Wednesday Apple's iOS operating system has 'two critical weak points for which no patch exists.' It said opening a manipulated website or PDF file could allow criminals to spy on passwords, planners and e-mails.

The security concern was highlighted after comex used the autoloading PDF feature of MobileSafari to jailbreak the iPhone, iPod, and iPad.

Users can somewhat protect themselves by installing PDF Loading Warner from Cydia.
