New Update of Firefox 4 Beta is Now Available

No comments:

The new update of Firefox 4 Beta is now available in 23 languages for testing and feedback. This update to Firefox 4 Beta continues with changes to the look of Firefox with tabs appearing on the top of the browser and introduces the ability to turn tabs into App Tabs.

Continued Evolution of the New Firefox Look – Tabs on Top
● Mac and Windows users now have all their tabs on the top of the browser. We moved the tabs to the top to make it easier to focus on the Web content and easier to control the tools in your Web browser.
● If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, the Menu bar is replaced with a single Firefox button so you get to the most used options with just one click.

App Tabs
● There are some websites you visit many times throughout your day, such as your email, social networks, music or game sites. Now you can turn the websites you use most into App Tabs to easily find the ones you need.
● App Tabs offer a better way to manage tabs, saving space on the tab bar and making it easy to find frequently used tabs. Check out this video from Alex Faaborg for more details on App Tabs.

CSS3 Transitions:
● The Firefox 4 Beta now has support for new CSS3 features like Transitions and Transformations, making it fun to add elegant animations to your websites.
● To show what CSS3 Transitions can do, we added them to the Firefox 4 Beta “What’s New” page. For more information, check out this post and demo from Paul Roget.

Retained Layers:
● Adding Retained Layers in Firefox 4 Beta allows for super-fast scrolling on complex websites. See Robert O’Callahan’s post for more information.

XPCOM Framework:
● We made changes to the XPCOM framework that improves start up time when you load Firefox. See Jorge Villalobos post for more information.

You can get the latest beta from this Href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html">link....

Type and Walk Safely, Even in the Dark

No comments:

Cramzy has released Type2Walk 1.1, their type and walk app for the iPhone. Holding the iPhone in either portrait or landscape orientation, the app simultaneously activates the device's video camera view and iOS keyboard below it. Users may text or email, and the typed characters appear superimposed over the camera's forward view on the display, which shows where they are walking. Owners of the iPhone 4 may also activate the built-in video light to illuminate their path as they walk and type.

SMS (Short Message Service), also known as text messaging, on mobile devices is the most widely used data application in the world, with 2.4 billion active users, or 74% of all mobile phone subscribers. Currently, there are 1.4 billion email users with about 250 billion emails per day. With these statistics in mind, it comes as no surprise that the modern, multi-tasking, mobile phone user may be seen all over the world sending a text or email and walking at the same time. With the growth of this phenomenon, new apps began appearing to help make this attention dividing task safer.

As a group they are known as the "type and walk" apps, and they use the multi-functionality of the modern smartphone to accommodate the emerging habits of the modern multi-tasker. These apps allow the user to use both the phone's video camera and its touchscreen text input capabilities, simultaneously. The user holds up the phone in front of them and they can see the view ahead well enough to navigate a crowded city street. Maintaining the proper camera view, they can use the touchscreen keyboard to type while they continue walking.

Feature Highlights:
* Walk and type app updated and refined for iOS 4 (iOS 3.x support also available)
* SMS (text), email, facebook, twitter or copy - from within the app itself
* Functions in landscape or portrait orientation
* Bright, LED video light may be activated for additional illumination while walking
* Alphanumeric characters are superimposed over the video display while typing
* Walk and type more safely using Type2Walk
* Use this app with caution - do not cross the street while typing

Type2Walk 1.1 provides all these features and more. For owners of the iPhone 3G or 3Gs they can type and walk while bright white alphanumeric characters appear superimposed over the video seen on the display. Conveniently, the app works in the typically used portrait mode, but also in the landscape mode, which offers much better peripheral vision and safety while walking. iPhone 4 owners have the added benefits of the high resolution Retina display, fast app switching, and the bright, dedicated video light for texters/walkers for whom darkness is no barrier to communicating on the go.

"We studied the other type and walk apps out there before we developed Type2Walk," stated Co-Owner Iliya Yordanov. "With its integrated texting, emailing, and copying capabilities, dedicated video light, ergonomic design, landscape mode operation, and Retina display compatibility, we think we have met our design goals."

Pricing and Availability:
Type2Walk 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD or equivalent in other currencies) and available worldwide, exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category. Review copies are available upon request.

Support Uneven Splits & Partial Payments

No comments:

Bacon Bear Productions has announced the release and immediate availability of Mr. Moneybags 1.1, a beautiful iPhone/iPod touch application designed to track personal IOU's and aid users in quickly collecting on those debts later. Mr. Moneybags is the only app that lets you publicly "Shame" your friends (via Facebook) into paying back the debts they owe you as well as the only app to support uneven splits and partial payments. Unique features of Mr. Moneybags include:

* Tips & Splits: Easily calculate tips and split bills from within the app. Mr. Moneybags is the only app of its kind that also allows for uneven splits for those times you have the salad and your friend has the filet mignon

* Payment Tracking: Keep records of your friends' full and partial payments. You can even log payment methods and view detailed payment histories

* Contexts: Organize debts into "Contexts" that are associated with a preferred currency and people in a "favorites" list. For example, when entering a new IOU in your "Trip to Mexico" context, Mr. Moneybags will automatically use the preferred currency of "peso" and suggest the names of your travel buddies from the context's "favorites" list

* Consolidation: Save time with Mr. Moneybags' innovative mechanism for streamlining complex IOU payback. Even a four-person trip can quickly become complicated with over 16 payer/payee combinations, but with just a single tap, Mr. Moneybags generates a system in which all debtors pay a single "consolidation master", who handles payback. This system reduces the number of transactions and makes settling debts among your group effortless

* Debt Reminders: Send a gentle reminder email or even post a "Shame" to a friend's Facebook page to let him (and everyone else) know that payment is due ASAP

"Mr. Moneybags was designed to make the mundane task of entering IOU's easy and the collection part fun," said Jeff Lee, Bacon Bear's CEO. "Thanks to full address book integration and a customizable 'favorites' list, IOU entry is a snap. Collecting on those IOU's is just as easy. A single tap can send a gentle reminder email or, for those who need a bit more encouragement, post a "Shame" to a friend's Facebook page"

Pricing and Availability:
Mr. Moneybags 1.1.1 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies), as well as a free ad-supported download and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Finance category.

Project Management for iPad

No comments:

FourthFrame Technologies has announced a new suite of apps for project management on the iPad platform building on the success of their flagship app Project Pad. The suite, named Simple Genius, is headlined by Project Pad which has been renamed to Simple Genius Project, compactly: SG Project. SG Project supports building and monitoring task-based project schedules and sports table and Gantt-style views familiar to professional project managers, but usable by anyone.

With Apple's iPad selling 3 million units in just 3 months it is clear that the unique new platform is a winner. And not just for playing games and surfing the internet. Business apps are some of the top sellers and many business people are leaving their now-seemingly-clunky laptops in the office and using iPads on the go. App developers for the new platform are having a difficult time satisfying the voracious appetite for truly good business apps.

FourthFrame Technologies hit a sweet spot early on with their first project management app, Project Pad, which has ranked steadily in the top 20 business apps for iPad. Ty Jacobs, Principal and co-founder of FourthFrame reports that the app sold in 43 countries in just the first week alone. "The demand has been amazing. Apple's distribution platform and market penetration have rapidly afforded FourthFrame a worldwide presence. Every day we receive and respond to emails from customers around the globe."

Despite its success, Project Pad had a latent problem with its name that emerged when Apple stopped approving iPad apps with the term Pad in the name. "Our vision all along has included a full suite of easy-to-use apps supporting project managers and it became clear that the branding had to change in order to realize that vision," said Jacobs. FourthFrame adopted the new moniker Simple Genius for the suite and Project Pad has now become Simple Genius Project. "SG Project is what the cool kids will call it," quipped Jacobs. "Very importantly to us, the thousands of loyal Project Pad customers will not have to re-purchase the app. SG Project is making its debut at version 1.4, simply a free update to Project Pad version 1.3. When customers download the free update the app will just appear with its new name and branding, plus over a dozen new features."

FourthFrame is also committing to add at least 3 additional apps to the Simple Genius family in the coming months, which is good news for mobile project managers. The app suite will provide consistent and familiar interactions for managing the various aspects of projects. Based on the rapid uptake and positive response to SG Project so far, FourthFrame has the design know-how and technical chops to deliver.

Pricing and Availability:
Simple Genius Project 1.4 is $9.99 (USD) and available now worldwide exclusively on the App Store in the Business category.

KeyCue Updated for Mac

No comments:

Ergonis Software has released KeyCue 5.1, a maintenance release of the company's popular keyboard shortcut cheat sheet. KeyCue is quite a handy tool for learning and remembering keyboard shortcuts. Whenever the command key is kept pressed for a while, KeyCue displays a table with all keyboard shortcuts available in the currently active application.

The newest version introduces a new built-in diagnostic tool for application-specific adjustments, increases compatibility with 3rd party applications, and improves overall performance, particularly in Safari. In addition to that, KeyCue 5.1 improves the installation and upgrade experience by displaying a more prominent warning when a new version is not covered by the current license, and by allowing to skip one particular version in the automatic update check.

The productivity paradox of keyboard shortcuts is that shortcuts were designed to increase productivity. However, productivity actually decreases when applications provide large numbers of shortcuts, in particular when the shortcuts are defined inconsistently across applications. KeyCue's elegantly simple solution is to display an instant overview of currently available keyboard shortcuts - application-specific menu shortcuts as well as system-wide hotkeys. Over time, KeyCue users will automatically remember frequently used shortcuts and start working more efficiently.

KeyCue has already received many awards, including a 4.5-Mice award from MacWorld magazine. KeyCue 5.1 requires Mac OS X version 10.4 or newer. Mac OS X 10.6 or newer is recommended. KeyCue 5.1 is a recommended update for everyone running on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Availability and Ordering:
KeyCue can be purchased securely on the Ergonis Software website. The upgrade to KeyCue 5.1 is free for anyone who has purchased KeyCue in the last 2 years. For information about purchases, including enterprise licenses, volume discounts, and upgrade pricing offers, see the company's web site. An Online press kit, including screenshots, is available on the Ergonis Software online. Instead of purchasing KeyCue by itself, customers can get the Macility Productivity Bundle that also contains two of the company's other productivity tools, PopChar X and Typinator.

Word Descrambler Released for iOS Devices

No comments:

Nate Heagy has announced the release and immediate availability of Word Descrambler 1.0.1, a retro-styled app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. Word Descrambler will find every possible word in a given Scrabble or Words with Friends tile rack. These are two of the most popular games on the App Store and both are anagram-style word games. However, most players can't find the optimal word to play, and usually not even close to it. With Word Descrambler players can perform far better than they normally would.

An avid Scrabble player himself, Nate Heagy, who never cheats, ever, even when pressured to do so, occasionally writes down the letters of his tile rack for later review. He found that existing apps to help find possible words were lacking. "Combinations of letters with many possibilities would fail to find every word," said Heagy, "missing the best words, which often start with letters near the end of the alphabet such as X and Q"

Word Descrambler features an advanced word sorting algorithm that examines every one of the 178,691 possible Scrabble words to always find the highest scoring possibilities.

Features:
* Always finds the best words, no matter how many letters or blank tiles are entered
* Runs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch as a universal binary
* Multitasks on iOS 4, which will mean something when either Scrabble or Words with Friends adds similar support
* Available at launch for $0.99, or as a lite version for free

Pricing and Availability:
Word Descrambler 1.0.1 is only $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Word Descrambler uses the TWL06 dictionary, which is the official tournament Scrabble dictionary in the United States, Canada, and Thailand.

Detect Duplicate Files, Folders and Applications

No comments:

Synium Software has released a new version of CleanApp, the popular uninstaller and system maintenance tool. Especially on mobile Macs, hard disk space is precious. Installing new software, downloading video files and creating your own documents all rightfully claim parts of the available space. There is, however, data that you can safely delete: files that aren't removed when you trash an application, cache files that are no longer needed, applications' localized versions for languages you don't speak, as well as files you created for onetime printout a few years back and won't ever need again.

CleanApp 3.4 introduces the Duplicate Files feature: scan for duplicate files and applications, as well as empty folders anywhere on your system. This release adds support for files created in PathFinder and brings several bug fixes and performance improvements.

As a fully featured maintenance tool, CleanApp can remove Preference Pane items, plugins and widgets, as well as language files and caches. Remove and archive entire applications including all assigned files so you can see if uninstalling that application has any negative effects on the performance and reliability of your system. Transfer this archive file to your backup system and restore the application with all required files and folders or reverse the uninstallation on your main system at any time.

CleanApp's Logging Service automatically collects data about which files and folders are created during the installation of a new application. The CleanCommunity feature, however, allows you to identify assigned files even if they were created before you started using CleanApp. The community server collects information about the files created during installation from all participating users and shares that information when you tell CleanApp to uninstall the same application.

Main features:
* Identify large files in the graphical Disk Usage view
* Delete applications with CleanApp and choose from the files it suggests for deletion with that application
* Have the Logging Service run in the background and track all file creations and modifications
* Remove the PowerPC or Intel components from Universal Binaries
* Delete unused language packs
* Get uninstall information from the CleanCommunity and profit from other users' uninstallation experience
* Exclude applications from logging
* Save archives to CD/DVD and restore them at any time

Pricing and Availability:
CleanApp 3 is available for $15 (USD) from our webstore. CleanApp 3.4 is a free update for existing users. Registration codes of any prior version will automatically work with CleanApp 3.

Apple Releases Compact Battery Charger

No comments:

The Apple Battery Charger is an efficient compact device optimized for Apple-supplied batteries; however, it also works with AA NiMH batteries from other companies.

The charger automatically reduces its power intake once your batteries are fully charged. It comes with six NiMH batteries — two for your keyboard, two for your mouse or trackpad, and two for charging. These high-performance batteries have up to a 10-year lifespan, they also hold a charge for an 'incredibly long time'.

The Apple Battery Charger has the lowest “vampire draw” of any similar charger on the market. That’s the energy that most chargers continue to draw even after their batteries are done charging. Unlike other chargers, the Apple Battery Charger senses when a battery charge cycle is complete and automatically reduces the amount of power it uses to 30 milliwatts — more than 10 times better than the industry average.

The charger is available to purchase from Apple for $29.

No comments:

Apple today unveiled a new Mac Pro line with up to 12 processing cores and up to 50 percent greater performance than the previous generation. Featuring the latest quad-core and 6-core Intel Xeon processors, all-new ATI graphics and the option for up to four 512GB solid state drives (SSD), the new Mac Pro continues to deliver amazing performance and expandability for the most demanding consumers and professionals.

These systems feature an integrated memory controller for faster memory bandwidth and reduced memory latency; Turbo Boost to dynamically boost processor speeds up to 3.6 GHz; and Hyper-Threading to create up to 24 virtual cores. The Mac Pro now comes with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics processor with 1GB of memory and customers can configure-to-order the even faster ATI Radeon HD 5870 with 1GB of memory.

For the first time, Mac Pro customers have the option to order a 512GB SSD for the ultimate in reliability and lightning fast performance. With the ability to install up to four SSD drives in the system's internal drive bays, the new Mac Pro can provide ultra high-speed disk bandwidth and random disk performance, two times faster than the average performance of a standard disk drive. Mac Pro also now features two Mini DisplayPorts and one dual-link DVI port. The additional Mini DisplayPort output allows customers to connect two LED Cinema Displays without an additional graphics card or adapter and the dual-link DVI port supports legacy DVI-based displays up to a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.

Every Mac Pro comes with Apple’s innovative Magic Mouse and customers can also order Apple’s new Magic Trackpad as an option. The Magic Trackpad brings the intuitive Multi-Touch gestures of Mac notebook trackpads to the desktop. With its glass surface, the wireless Magic Trackpad allows users to scroll smoothly up and down a page with inertial scrolling, pinch to zoom in and out, rotate an image with their fingertips and swipe three fingers to flip through a collection of web pages or photos. The Magic Trackpad can be configured to support single button or two button commands and supports tap-to-click as well as a physical click. Magic Trackpad is available separately for $69.

Continuing Apple’s commitment to the environment, Apple’s desktop lineup is a leader in green design. The Mac Pro meets stringent Energy Star 5.0 requirements and achieves EPEAT Gold status. The Mac Pro enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and the interior is designed to be more material-efficient. The Mac Pro uses PVC-free internal cables and components and contains no brominated flame retardants. The new Apple Battery Charger provides a convenient and environmentally friendly way to always have a fresh set of batteries for your Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard. The Apple Battery Charger is available as an option for $29 and comes with six long shelf life rechargeable batteries.

The all New Magic Trackpad

No comments:

The new Magic Trackpad is the first Multi-Touch trackpad designed to work with your Mac desktop computer. It uses the same Multi-Touch technology you love on the MacBook Pro. And it supports a full set of gestures, giving you a whole new way to control and interact with what’s on your screen. Swiping through pages online feels just like flipping through pages in a book or magazine. And inertial scrolling makes moving up and down a page more natural than ever. Magic Trackpad connects to your Mac via Bluetooth wireless technology. Use it in place of a mouse or in conjunction with one.
