Backgrounder Adds Auto Detect Method for iOS 4

No comments:

Lance Fetters has released an update to Backgrounder which adds an Auto Detect background method for iOS 4

Backgrounder allows for total control of backgrounding on an iPhone/iOS-based device. With Backgrounder, *you* decide when an app should keep running, and when it should quit. Backgrounder provides true backgrounding; minimized apps can be made to continue to run as if they were still the foreground app.

Changelog svn.r513:
● NEW: Added background method "Auto Detect" (iOS 4.0+ only).
● FIX: Status bar icons now work with iOS 4.0+.
o Requires phoenix3200's libstatusbar extension.
● MOD: Removed use of preferences symbolic link, as it is not needed.
o The symlink ~/.backgrounderrc is no longer used, and can be manually deleted, if desired.
o Some apps still have issues due to Apple's sandbox; this will need to be fixed in a later release.
● MOD: Changed maximum supported firmware version to 4.0.1.
o Note that Backgrounder purposely blocks untested firmware versions; this is to prevent the possibility of crashes with newer firmware.
o Jailbreak users should *never* upgrade to new iOS firmware versions until they are certain that the firmware is jailbreakable and that the extensions they wish to use have been properly updated.

You can download Backgrounder from the BigBoss Cydia repository.

Apple Starts Refunding Bumper Purchases

No comments:

Apple has started refunding Bumper purchases today and will continue doing them in batches throughout the week, according to MacRumors forum poster Chodite.

"Just got off the phone with Apple and they said that those that purchased with debit cards should see a refund in 6-8 days...credit card refunds will be by the NEXT credit card cycle... refunds will be AUTOMATIC. Also, those interested in the "free" case, there is no estimated date on when that will go live but she said that information will be made available on Apple's site when it goes live", posted web4fun.

Apple has also begun sending emails to those who await shipment of their Bumper to let them know it will be free.

iMac Shortages Suggest New Models Are Coming Soon

No comments:

Apple has begun advising its sales channels that the iMac is in short supply and to sell through existing stock.

AppleInsider reports that a person familiar with the matter says the Mac maker is informing some of its distributors not to expect any further stock of the entry level 21.5-inch, 3.06GHz iMac, implying that production of that model has ceased. Meanwhile, those with ties to the company's stateside reseller channels are being advised to sell through their stock of all existing iMac models and to keep their inventories as lean as possible for the next few weeks.

These reports are similar to the ones heard just before Apple launched the updated Mac mini last month.

Potential configurations included a dual-core Core i5 model, as well as quad-core Core i5 and Core i7 configurations with USB 3.0 support and a faster FireWire interface.

AppleInsider also believes that Apple is working on Macs with microprocessors from AMD and has a 12-core Xeon-based Mac Pro and a 27-inch LED Cinema Display in its labs.

*thanks iclarified*

Personally I would like nothing other than intel or the IBM 8core chip from the ps3, and I'm looking towards a touch screen model.

No comments:

WebIS has announced two major releases to its integrated calendaring and tasks app for iOS 4, Pocket Informant, including a major update to its current iPhone edition and a brand new iPad edition. New features include icons for events/tasks, iOS 4 multitasking support, local notifications, and location-based alerts. Pocket Informant is one of the most popular productivity applications for iOS with over 125,000 customers and over 450,000 downloads of Pocket Informant Lite.

While other apps focus on either solely calendaring or tasks, Pocket Informant stands out among the productivity apps on the iOS by merging full-featured task management with robust calendaring in one app. Realizing that most users are mobile we have focused on location based features in our last few releases.

By providing OTA sync to Google, Toodledo and Outlook, you can now keep your calendar and task information completely in sync from your iPhone to your iPod touch and now to your iPad as well.

WebIS released the first iPhone version of their popular application Pocket Informant a little over a year ago. "We now have Pocket Informant on three mobile platforms and we're thrilled with the response we've had from our iPhone customers over this past year" says Alex Kac, CEO. "And between the iPad and iOS 4, we're very excited about our roadmap ahead of us for the upcoming year."

Free iPhone App Halp!

No comments:

Sinecure Industries has announced the release of Halp! 1.2, an update to their free Advice Generator for iPhone and iPod touch. There have been some major changes in this version 1.2 release. There is a new, larger font, a refresh button, crisper graphics and even more bad advice! Even better, it's still free.

As a company, Sinecure Industries has learned several valuable lessons from the release of "Halp! The Advice Generator" and the subsequent reaction:

Problem #1: People no longer learn/know how to read cursive. We have received hundreds of complaints from people telling us that Halp! was in another language. A few told us they wanted a refund on their free app. Needless to say, we happily obliged.

Solution #1: "Halp! The Advice Generator" now has a crisp, clean font. The font is also larger as a few people said the text was both illegible and too small.

Problem #2: People are too weak to shake their phone to refresh. This complaint went hand in hand with the font problem. I can relate to this problem, with so many pieces of bad advice, going through them all can become tiring. Then again, the iPhone weighs a whole pound and if you are tired shaking it, well, you have bigger problems.

Solution #2: "Halp! The Advice Generator" now has a refresh button location in the upper right portion of the app interface. No more embarrassing arm fat jiggling! No more heart palpitations from an iPhone app! Sinecure Industries understands what it is to be lazy and we're here to help. Or Halp!

Problem #3: "My family is dead, I hope you're happy" review on the App Store.

Solution #3: We're very happy that you're finding new ways to live your life from "Halp! The Advice Generator" and are pleased you found a piece of advice that really spoke to you. We're also very happy we have modified terms and conditions that completely absolve us from any liability in this matter!

Problem #4: "All of your advice is bad" - support e-mail.

Solution #4: Shut up!

Pricing and Availability:
Halp! The Advice Generator 1.2 is free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category.

3D Twist On Classic Arcade Favorite

No comments:

E4 Software has released the latest update for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Critter Mash 1.0 combines 3D graphics with an age old arcade and carnival favorite. The object of the game is simple: "Whack" the cute little animals when they pop their heads out of their holes. Players use their finger to tap animals on the head to gain points. They must be careful because the game is timed. Tapping the wrong animal, could take time away from them.

The longer a player lasts, the faster the Critter Mashing action becomes. More Critters are added every 65 seconds, and in the late stages some Critters carry much higher scores. Players need to take care because penalties can increase too. Hitting the Fox takes 5 seconds off the clock, and failing to hit the King or Queen Weasel means lost time as well. Users need to act fast, because if the clock runs down before they finish, the game is over. Critter Mash 1.0 is easy to learn, easy to play, and almost impossible to put down.

Here are some of Critter Mash's awesome features:
* 3-D graphics
* Easy to use controls
* Familiar format
* Beat the clock for higher scores
* Bonus points for prolonged play
* Fun and exciting game play
* Addictive!

Pricing and Availability:
Critter Mash 1.0 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games, Arcade, Action category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.

Safari Auto-Fill Vulnerability Could Reveal Your Info to Malicious Sites

No comments:

An auto-fill bug in Safari could reveal your first name, last name, work place, city, state, and email address to a malicious website without you having entered any personal information on the site previously.

According to Jeremiah Grossman, Safari autofills HTML form text fields with specific attribute names such as name, company, city, state, country, email, etc.

These fields are AutoFill’ed using data from the users personal record in the local operating system address book. Again it is important to emphasize this feature works even though a user never entered this data on any website. Also this behavior should not be confused with normal auto-complete data a Web browser may remember after its typed into a form. All a malicious website would have to do to surreptitiously extract Address Book card data from Safari is dynamically create form text fields with the aforementioned names, probably invisibly, and then simulate A-Z keystroke events using JavaScript. When data is populated, that is AutoFill’ed, it can be accessed and sent to the attacker.

Grossman has posted some proof-of-concept code (graciously hosted by Robert "RSnake" Hansen). He's also tried to contact Apple but received no response. To protect yourself you can just disable autofill in Safari for the time being.
